Three Loach films about worker exploitation: The Navigators (2001) / Ken Loach This is a fairly boring film with a group of non-unionized railway workers trying to survive after their British Rail depot is bought out by a private company. The film seems more improvised than written. The result is that none of the workers seem to be relating a story. Therefore, the film (or docudrama) seems to have no central theme. ![](https://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=AwrE19U9yfhewkcAx2BXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEydTJhNW51BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQzAwOTNfMQRzZWMDc2M-?p=images+from+The+Navigators+%282001%29&fr=yfp-t#id=13&iurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.planetdp.org%2Ftitleimgs%2Fbig%2Fthe-navigators-5bb0b743d5388.jpg&action=click) ![](https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-H9PUNMAZwF4/U1mnhcapg4I/AAAAAAAAH8U/rSQdFb2QLAQ/s1600/navigators-2001-01-g.jpg) ![](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--eph_fa15q4/U1mnuqCIRnI/AAAAAAAAH8c/pJvVpkHaXpg/s1600/navigators-2001-02-g.jpg) It's a Free World... (2007) / Ken Loach After being fired from her own job, a woman and her flatmate decide to start their own agency for hiring vulnerable immigrants from Poland and other Eastern countries and placing them in low-paying day jobs. They hook these workers up with the right low-paying companies and get paid from the company to pay the workers. They soon get in over their heads and need to cut corners for even these workers. Dehumanization of these immigrant workers grows more and more as the film progresses. Bread and Roses (2000) / Ken Loach This movie, based on a true story, did get some critical and popular acclaim here in the US: www.rogerebert.com/reviews/bread-and-roses-2001. With scenes resembling Norma Rae (1979), a union organizer, Sam Shapiro (Adrien Brody), attempts to unionize janitors in a high-rise, high-rent building in LA. Since Maya (Pilar Padilla) and members of her family are immigrants in need of work, they fear the consequences of organizing. Hidden cameras, loyal bosses such as Perez (George Lopez), and other factors make organizing very dangerous and risky. Yet, they persist.. ![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/it/e/e5/Screenshot_Bread_and_Roses.jpeg) ![](https://centrocso.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/15.jpg)
