Don't ever buy tuna fish cans that have a pull tab. You can totally almost cut yourself , i just did. Almost. Because they are too narrow to get a grip on when using the pull tab. They shouldn't make them that way. I'm still pretty freaked out over it. But i've calmed down a bit. I reckon.
Of course, why would you buy canned tuna in the first place? You probably wouldn't.

Use a small spoon under the tab, that's how I open all those tiny cans of Fancy Feast.

For sardine cans, I pull initially, then press down along the edges over the sink until I can either take the top off or get all of the fish out. Easier to drain that way.
Have never had an issue with Fancy feast cans.

You received good advice msstreep so I won't add to that BUT When I was a kid I didn't want to grow up. There were several things my mom did that I did NOT want to do. One was slaughtering chickens. Another was opening a canned ham with a key. Your post reminded me. PS luckily I don't do either of those

I eat canned tuna quite often, but the brand I use doesn't have pull tabs.

WKD eats the little cans of tuna that come in a 3 pack = they have pull tabs, I notice that most of the regular size cans don't have pull tabs. I always have a hard time opening those cans of corned beef, I've cut myself many times opening those - you know, the ones with the key that you wind the metal around. I make a corned beef hash using the canned corned beef.

Why do we say tuna fish? Tuna is a kind of fish, but we just say cod or salmon or sole or tilapia or shark. And catfish means it's not cat.

Had to look this up & I sprayed water all over my floor(good thing I thought of my keyboard). Because some believe there are two kinds of tuna. Tuna that is a fish-tuna fish. And tuna that is chicken-ala chicken of the sea(yes it does mention Jessica Simpson).

I eat canned tuna all the time(Tyson grilled tuna, with a pull tab). I know it's supposed not be good for you-mercury & all that. But I work 16 hour days & really don't have the time to cook actual tuna fillets. I put it in my salad.

I put it in my salad. ⁿSkipjack and canned light tuna, which are relatively low in mercury, can be eaten as part of a healthy diet. However, albacore, yellowfin and bigeye tuna are high in mercury and should be limited or avoided."
