Just about what I expected. A mixed bag like most anthology horror shows. Still I'm pleased I can watch it on AMC.
It got a 3rd season too I read.
Anyone watching?

Yes. I watched and agree with your assessment. Not even close to the original Creepshow but maybe as "good" as the sequels.

Yeah, I’m all in on it. I love what they’re doing and am very much looking forward to Season 2. Favorite segments are Gray Matter & All Hallow’s Eve

Creepshow 2 was so disappointing. I regret seeing that in a theater. They didn't even try to adopt the comic cinematography of the first.

I'd say I like about 5 or 6 of the segments. Some of the other ones didn't do much for me.
The Worms, the DJ Qualls segment, the Halloween, the Scarecrow, the Promotion, and the Army segments were pretty cool.
Love the inclusion of the Storyteller Skeleton. And still using some Comic book approaches.

It's suffering from really cheap production values. Some of it is fun, and Nicotero ensures that the effects are mostly solid, but it has a weak look a lot of times. The scripts are all pretty much what you'd expect, but mostly not very good and none are nearly as fun as the namesake suggests they should be. The animation looks really amateurish and they don't do nearly as much of the comic book lighting and backdrops as they should.
All that said, some are decent and the nature of the anthology format means that at any point they could come up with a great one, and as long as they put it on TV I'll probly keep watching.

I watched the first two, and have to catch up with the rest. It's a guilty pleasure. Not great, but enjoyable.

Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the show as a whole. It was a bit too comedic for me and badly acted in many of the segments. I'll try to watch a lot of shows, and there are some bad ones with the acting abilities. This series was right up there in that regard. Some of the plots of the segments were very muddled and ended with almost no creepy impact whatsoever. With that said, my favorite segments are "Gray Matter", "House of the Dead", "The Finger", "The Companion" and "Lydia Lynne's Better Half." The first episode in the season was my favorite and I had a lot of high hopes that this would be a serious horror show over something campy. It ended up being almost completely campy-feeling, sometimes even more enjoyable for kids than adults, in my opinion. "Gray Matter" has some amazing effects and a couple horror icon appearances by actors Adrienne Barbeau & Tobin Bell. The segment had an intensity that reminded me of a more serious The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill segment from the original film. The segment ends abruptly with no full conclusion. Still very entertaining, excellent horror. "House of the Head", visually the episode is shot beautifully and actress Cailey Fleming should be a future star in the making. The segment also randomly reminded me a little of the Joe Hill comic book, The Dollhouse Family. Which is an awesome comic book, Joe Hill being Stephen King's son. Sadly, the segment also ends pretty subtle. I think one more final creepy twist, it would have made the segment more flawless. "The Finger" is a perfect example of one of the campy-silly-comedic segments in the show. I highly enjoyed it over many of the other segments because it's plot is on point, it's creature is cool and cute, the segment is filled with gore and actor DJ Quills delivers the character perfectly. I actually didn't like it upon first watching, I didn't expect the comedic segment. But after re-watching it became a favorite. Solid segment beginning to end. "The Companion" outside of the creature in the Gray Matter episode, this segment has one of the best larger scale make-up monsters of the series. Others had a lot of CGI work or were just less cool to me. The lead acting of the kids was very dull, as it was for most of the show for me. But I appreciate we got an origin story and proper ending dealing with revenge. "Lydia Lynne's Better Half" I knew would be good from the teaser I watched of it in a commercial. Unique sounding claustrophobic tale, didn't expect the same sex marriage but it was a nice take to see. I don't know the actress Tricia Helfer but she embodied the perfect character for a Creepshow episode. With a minor tweak or two and shorter opening, this segment could've been as eerie as the movie The Grudge. The thing I think the show suffers most from is it feels like it's trying to be scary. A majority of the actors in the other segments are trying to be creepy. Even the plots feel like they're trying to deliver a horror twist but then usually fall short becoming predictable and boring. I usually don't like to complain about a show, but I'll let it out here below, it's all my opinion of course. "Bad Wolf Down" had a interesting enough story as I like WWII atmospheres and Werewolves. Actor Jeffrey Combs also makes a great cameo. This segment I don't hate unlike some others, but I dislike it because the ending like so many other segments ends flat. (SPOILERS) The segment ends with a chat and not a gruesome murder or chase of the deserter. "All Hallow's Eve" was the definition of dull. Halloween is the favorite holiday of any horror fan and I've seen it all in movies and in person. I appreciate the story and concept of revenge. (SPOILERS) It all just felt like a kids story told by kids, which the story basically was. There was no legit horror to it other than seeing under the ghost kid's outfit. "The Man in the Suitcase" I have problems with, lol. Why did they have to make the man in the suitcase so normal and random and not someone who would be dead if stuck in a suitcase like in the segment. (SPOILERS) I did like the genie reveal but even the acting and coins out of the mouth idea, I don't know. The segment felt more corny than scary. It frustrated me to watch unlike the first episode. "Night of the Paw" showed promise, as every anthology story has that classic paw tale. I liked seeing actor Bruce Davison, he was perfect for the role and series. If the entire story revolved around him I probably would've liked the story more. (SPOILERS) The mortician's wife was getting scary until the cemetery scrummage. The hit-girl really seemed unnecessary the entire segment for me. "Times is Tough in Musky Hollow" was the worst segment to me. A huge portion of everything was told in comic book pages, if it wasn't told this way us the viewer wouldn't know what was going on at all. Actor David Arquette was all I liked seeing. (SPOILERS) The zombie crawl-kills which we almost don't see happen with our eyes, nor the cheering stadium fans, felt so unrealistic to exist in any story. "Skincrawlers" seemed it should be a hit but it actually had many goofy plot holes and characters I didn't at all like. There was some good gross moments but then even the crawlers themselves felt inconsistent with each other. (SPOILERS) Why did the main pretty boy doctor have a giant crawler rip out of him but no one else did? And I know good-hearted overweight people, who in their right mind would never eat a candy bar covered in crawler goo surrounded by bloody corpses. The logic. "By The Silver Water of Lake Champlain" I did want to like, as we don't get too many good lake monster stories in horror. But the characters were dull and badly acted, minus the crazy boyfriend, he was good. (SPOILERS) I didn't mind the plot and twist of finding the dead baby Champy and then what I gather is the mother at the end. Instead of ending in a eerie chase or attack on the main two kids, the actual Champy swims away. Where was the real horror? Just a drama segment story. If the show came out telling me that they're going to have a bunch of fun, entertaining and new take with horror stories, I'd probably dislike the show much less. But the show is on Shudder and AMC, proclaiming itself to be one of the scariest shows on TV right now. The show for me, doesn't come close to that. The show feels like it's trying to be the new "Tales From The Crypt" but delivers more like the show "Goosebumps." "Tales From The Crypt" has some amazing horror segments, all of which ending with that unexpected horror twist or life moral much like the classic TV anthology series, "The Twilight Zone." "Tales From The Crypt" had episodes like "All Through The House", "Sin Deep" and "Abra Cadaver." Almost every episode starred an A-list actor of the early 90's. Even the "Goosebumps" series had "The Haunted Mask", "Attack of the Jack-O'-Lanterns" and "Night of the Living Dummy." The show was made for kids, but if you were a kid in the 90's this was the horror kids show of its time. It even has a couple kid actors making cameos in their first earliest gigs, from actor Ryan Gosling to actor Hayden Christensen. I want to watch this show over again, all episodes of its four seasons, more than I plan to re-watch most of the "Creepshow" series. Sorry, long rant. "Creepshow" the movie is one of my favorite horror movies of all-time, it's not perfect but its nostalgic horror from what I think is the best decade of horror movies. I give the movie 8/10 stars at the very lowest. "Creepshow" the show felt so hit-and-miss on trying to find out what it wants to be, which I hope they resolve by season 2. I give the show 5.5/10 stars that I won't change the rating on. However, my favorite five segments I'd rate 7.5/10 stars or higher. Hope this helps anyone who cares. I will lastly add, I did enjoy the comic book pages and Skeleton Keeper that introduces and concludes each segment. It's all just my opinion, gifs of my favorite segments included.
