Tried to get both leads from Gun Crazy in, but ran out of options. Spoilt for choice for this year! Have you seen Champagne for Caesar? It’s one of my favourite 50s comedies with Colman and Price - what voices! - on sparkling form.

I watched Stage Fright today, this thread having reminded me that it was (I think) the only 50s Hitchcock movie I hadn’t seen. Excellent start, some slow patches in the middle, splendid final act. Truth be told I found Wyman no more than adequate - she comes across as too much of a simp whereas the role calls for someone who can project a tough/fearless side. She’s better than Richard Todd, though (although he was cute). But Dietrich is fabulous, Sim smashing as always, Michael Wilding excellent. I had no idea where it was going so I enjoyed it quite a lot. Dietrich storms into my list; Sim would easily make it too in a weaker year but 1950 has so much quality going for it, and so many still to see, too.

I think Jane Wyman hits all the right notes for the most part, but I don't think she is great.
