It seems if you can't do anything new for a franchise film, then go back to the original film and cherry-pick characters, regardless of how big/small their role is, and use them in the new film. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is doing the exact same thing. Having to strip-mine the original film like this shows a lack of new and fresh ideas.

It’s about time. My pick for recasting is Kevin Bacon.

Why would they bring back such a minor, one off character?

It’s about time. My pick for recasting is Kevin Bacon. When I read the Crichton novel of The Lost World back in the '90s, I couldn't help but picture Rob Lowe in the role. I can still see him in it, as a matter of fact.

Why would they bring back such a minor, one off character? Because they are creatively bankrupt at this point?

Indeed he is. Even before reading it, I was surprised he never came back in one of the film sequels since he's pretty much responsible for everything going wrong in the first one. See, I care about you, Dodgson. :/

Why would they bring back such a minor, one off character? Maybe he'll have a larger role in this one.

Bring back Wayne Knight Have a room full of cloned Nedrys. That would make an interesting plot.

Bring back Samuel Jackson, they could make some half assesed excuse for his "death": "Oh that arm actually belonged to some other black guy that was never seen or mentioned"

In that case I strongly recommend The Woodsman, Bacon is superb in it.

They’re only bringing him back so they can make a “We got Dodgson here” joke as a callback. I can feel it.

Why would they bring back such a minor, one off character? He has a much bigger presence in the original two novels.
