enigma72 Do you live where there is a food pantry or thrift shop ? They often appreciate garden produce to give away. Do you live where there is a place to set up a table (in the shade) and either sell them or give them away ? You can just leave an honor box so you don't have to hover. Make some refrig pickles ... they are really easy and keep a long time .. several recipes on line.

You should get a gallon-sized jar and pickle lots of them. They last virtually forever and don't need refrigeration.

That's good too. I'm going to look for pickle recipes. My refrigerator is full. I know this is not a problem. I just hate to throw out food. (Raised by Depression era parents)

I just hate to throw out food. Think of it as future compost which is good for the garden I don't do "official" composting but all garden waste (including excess or over ripe this and that) goes into a pile and eventually turns into "brown gold". End of season I don't even put it on a pile. Overwintering breaks it all down well enuf.

I really like cucumbers with salt & pepper. I also like them sliced and add vinegar and onions. Kind of like a salad. You can use regular onions or red onions. But I like it with these kind of onions. I clean and add some of the stems in it along with the onion part.

I used to love cucumbers and cucumber sandwiches but I can no longer digest them. Hopefully next year we're going to plant black raspberry bushes next to our privacy fence. I have some wild raspberries growing next to a rose bush out front, probably some bird or mouse pooped out a seed. I left the few berries alone for whatever little creature wants them.

I really like cucumbers with salt & pepper. Whenever my dad saw me eating cucumber, he'd say "How can you eat that without salt?" My son never got to meet him, but it's one of the few anecdotes I've passed on to him about my dad and it makes him smile. But dad would sneeze any time pepper was anywhere nearby.

Cucumbers and onions sliced with a little sugar and vinegar AND sour cream and dill. Google the recipe if you're interested and want exact measurements. Really good!

When I could eat cucumbers, I used to eat them like that except for the dill, I never had dill in the house. Just sugar and vinegar makes a nice salad dressing for a tossed salad.

Why do cats suddenly freak out if they see a cucumber nearby? There are lots of videos on YouTube which are described as funny. But not for the cats it isn't. Most reactions are frenzied and the cats leap suddenly two or three feet in the air, some of them. Owners place a cucumber while the cat is busy eating or is otherwise occupied with something but when it spots the cucumber all hell breaks loose. I wonder if they mistake it for a snake but how many cats have seen a snake? Yet they all react the same. I understand cats are highly sensitive to their immediate environment so perhaps the unexpected appearance of a long rounded thing just sends them berserk, perhaps fearing it to be a monster version of the common garden worm which they are likely to have seen before. It is quite the mystery. Whilst these videos can be amusing I can't help but feel for the cats' terror, even though I don't own one.

I spoke with one neighbor who hadn't eaten the cucumbers yet. Lol Not high on her priorities. She is pregnant so gets a pass on everything!
Another neighbor loved them! She did want more if I had some.
Reminds me of when I grew zucchini. I would walk down the street and I swear! Doors slammed so people wouldn't have to get the squash. Lol
