I could be wrong anyone else notice this?
The problem is in the first 2 games it seems like you're going fast, backgrounds and roads seem to fly by you when at 300km , even that fast. So that's good.
Third game though, everything seems like there's no sense of speed whatsoever. And future games all as well. Spedomator will say you're going 100, but if you look at the screen you could of sworn you're going thirty mph.
Like, when the car looks like it's going 30 mph around a corner(when the speedometer says 300kph) has problems cuz you gotta slam on the brakes and shift down...otherwise you'd slam into the wall. But the sense of speed you get, (since it seems like it's going 35 mph) it's like you could be driving a toyota tercel, a used one. And considering how fast it looks like you're going you could just turn the corner without even braking.
The first game wasn't exactly accurate to how fast everything goes by, exactly. But pretty close.
So yea, from the 3rd game on, the speed is realistic up to about 40 mph. But then when you get anywhere from that to 300 mph . it doesn't look like you're going any faster, you're handling just gets worse.

I haven't played many games in the series but I have Gran Turismo Sport for the PS4 and I think this has more to do with the camera chosen than anything else.
If you put the cockpit camera or the bumper camera, it looks way more fast than the one behind the car that many people use.

I used to like that series in the old days but once Forza series came along (I play with all assists off) on XBox I could not go back to the Gran Turismo series.
I generally prefer the behind the car view.
