We're halfway done with 2020 with July arriving. How has the year been for you so far? Any highlights/lowlights?

Crappy. Nothing good has happened. Every year gets worse for me really.

I haven't died yet so it could have been worse.

I've managed to stay employed full time, so I've been more fortunate than many.

Not bad so far. But now I'm back to work, it's real hot and I probably won't be seeing the beach, mall or pool too much, if not at all, this year. But I do have some vacation time, I think, and Christmas is coming !

The best of times; the worst of times.
Best: we're both fully retired now; do what we like, when we like within our little home oasis.
Worst: almost everything going on outside those confines; millions unwillingly on the brink of disaster; other millions willingly charging headlong toward it.
On the one hand, I'm curious about what the future, say, 15 - 20 years and beyond holds; on the other, I'm glad I'm unlikely to be around to see.

This sounds so trite, but it is what it is.

Much the same as 2016, 17, 18 & 19. Another year older and thankfully not in debt.

I mean, all things considered.....not too bad.
Back in the middle of February, I got a notice in my work email about a transition that the company is going to go thru. The shocking phrase in the email was that there would be job cuts. So, in the 3rd week of February, on the Thursday, we had an emergency meeting. The supervisor reiterated that there would be job cuts. As he said that, he looked right at me. I thought....well....you don't want to know what I thought. Luckily, I wasn't one of the ones that was let go. I just had a change in my job title.
A month later....well....we all know the announcement that was made.
It was determined that all who could work from home should work from home. I had to get some help with the I.T. department to update the software so that I could log in to the company's computer system from home. That was on March 19th.
I've been working from home ever since. So far, I have saved a lot of money because I'm not using as much fuel to get to and from work (was about $80.00/week). Since I've been working from home, I've gone to the gas station....maybe three times. Even then, I only put $20.00 of fuel in the tank each time - just to top it up. Plus, since I don't have my commute (hour there / hour back), I've not put much mileage on my car.
Having said that, I do miss the interaction with fellow co-workers. I mean, yes - we do have our weekly meeting over the computer, but it's just not the same.
PLUS, they have expanded my territory at work, so I'm keeping busy. Honestly, I wouldn't want it any other way. The alternative would be that they would have to lay me off. Then, I'd be fretting if they would ever call me back.
I also do miss going out. Everything I used to enjoy (bowling, softball, hockey, shopping at malls) has been shut down. Well....malls are starting to open back up again. However, until the pandemic is somewhat under control, I'm not going anywhere near the big city.
I'm now sensing that we are not going to have a softball season. Yes - I miss the interaction with my teammates and hanging out afterwards for beer. But, I really don't miss it.
Bowling was uprooted. I did hear from a friend of mine - saying bowling could be returning soon. I'm leery about that - figuring recreational facilities are not until phase 3 of reopening the province of Ontario. Right now, we are in stage 2.
Hockey was uprooted. I'm a spectator on this, though. There was just over 2 weeks to go in the regular season. Games were postponed, then outright cancelled. I then thought.....it's now only a matter of time when they cancel the playoffs and the Memorial Cup tournament. Well...they did that, too.
For me, 2020 has had its ups and downs, but I do what I usually do - roll with it and adapt accordingly. That is, by taking heed of the advice of health care professionals (washing hands frequently, social distancing etc.) so that I keep myself healthy.

Fairly alright. Added a 2nd pt gig, now working 6 days total, & it's pretty much a breeze, easy money. My shipping/receiving gigs are pandemic proof, retail back rooms social distancing is not a concern at all. I read a lot about the economy, & it's weird to think it's not directly affecting my day to day - when millions either haven't returned to work, or worse their work no longer even exists. My work hours are more civilized because of COVID-19, no more super early mornings or late evenings... we actually joke that it'll scuk once that changes.
