I appreciate her music more now than in her day - 40 years ago. They had a decided art design to them. I hope you can appreciate she was a survivor too. She was in Wind In The Willows in the late 1960s, the Stilettos in the early 1970s, besides taking on all sorts of rent-paying jobs and art projects on the side. She worked hard to reach the top.

As the Stilettos evolved into Blondie by gigging in New York's seamy underbelly, songs changed. Blondie's disco punk anthem 'Heart Of Glass' is a case in point.
'Once I Had A Love'

Thanks for the background on her and Blondie. I don't think I've ever heard an album y her or her group. I only know a few hits and the memorable art design.
Too bad she was all but written out of Cop Land.

Thanks for the background on her and Blondie. I don't think I've ever heard an album y her or her group. I only know a few hits and the memorable art design. Too bad she was all but written out of Cop Land. If you look at the picture of the Stilettos, the bass player looks like Fred Smith - when he left the band, he became the bass player in Television, and Television's original bassist Richard Hell formed the Voidoids. I mention this to illustrate how instrumental Debbie Harry was in the invention and popularisation of punk music, being there every step of the way.
She's very funny too, in interviews. When David Cronenberg cast her in 'Videodrome' ("long live the new flesh") he said he had to ask her to not be campy and start getting serious. She delivered.
Lovely to be able to say a happy birthday - hope she has a good one (presumably) under lockdown/.
