I've been living in my apartment for 40 years. I'm always amazed at how many tenants never open their windows.
Not only that, but they never open their blinds or curtains. They don't even louver their blinds to look out, or let light in.
Isn't that weird?
What do you think?

Absolutely! Fresh air, and sunshine ... or, even fog in the summer ... are vital to me. I, too, am amazed at the number of neighbors who don't open windows/shades/shutters. It would drive me crazy.
I'm in a city neighborhood, on a fairly busy street. At the front of the flat, I have 40" X 40" windows in the living room, and "the other room," which I think was meant to be a dining room, but is my computer/workroom/library. I pull the blinds in the living room, at night. But, there's a large tree in front of the window in "the other room," so that's rarely closed off.

I louver open my blinds during the day to see out. But close them at night so nobody can see in.

No way. Three reasons:
1 too many allergens. We have allergies
2. Poor air quality. Some of the worst in the USA
3. My back door neighbor smokes pot. Day or night he can be on his patio (upwind from my home) smoking a doobie which is legal in California. My daughter has severe breathing issues.
All you who want marijuana legalized know you may not be able to breath fresh air.

He is a 40 year old unemployed (SSI) guy who lives with his dad If he hears us he does put it out. We have a garden and my husband does yard work so we are in the back yard quite a lot. BUT the problem is leaving windows open. You just never know when he'll smoke a jay. Although marijuana is legal here there is still a huge underground economy. I believe people are oblivious to the side effects of legalizing pot. Car accidents, lower birth rates.

We open our blinds/curtains when we are awake. The exception is our bedroom. We live where 100 degree summer day is not uncommon. We keep the curtains closed to keep heat out

I love fresh air so i open all windows in the summer but mosquitos and my Indian neighbors cooking do force me to close everything from time to time.
My mom lives a couple of streets from me and her neighbors across the street have not opened their balcony door or windows in like 20 years you can see the rust and dirt from afar.

My bedroom windows are always open, night and day, spring, summer, autumn, and winter, never closed. Always have been. Couldn't sleep with closed windows, I'd go bananas.

Me too enigma. It's too hot and humid down here in the Summer. And I'm sure sooner or later, I would be robbed leaving my windows open when I'm not home.

Like my OP says, I see some apartments from my apartment whose windows, blinds, shades and curtains have never been opened in over 10 years. It must be so stale, stuffy and stinky in there.

Northern Ireland usually has temperate weather the whole year round. Hardly ever gets too cold or too hot except for short spells. Most times I even keep a desktop fan running too. No mozzies or dangerous insects, and the windows I keep open are no use for any burglarous enterprises. As far as I know we haven't had a burglary in my street for years, at least I can't remember one. I don't get out, but my window looks out on the street. I see a police car about once a year. Hope it stays that way and doesn't return to more troubling times.

I keep the windows closed and the A/C on when it's hot and humid outside.
But when it's nice and cool out, even in the winter, I'll open the windows up.
If it's sunny out and cool, the blinds go up as well as opening the windows.
Always need sunshine and fresh air when possible.
