Yippee-kay-aye, Mr. Falcon! The 4th of July weekend 30 years ago saw many Americans celebrate the holiday with John McClane instead of Uncle Sam. The sequel may not be as good as the original, but it's still entertaining........just make sure you turn off your brain at the door for this particular sequel. At least I'd venture to say it's the best of the Die Hard sequels and one of director Renny Harlin's best movies.
Maltin Movie Guide Review:
Die Hard 2 (1990) - 3 out of 4 stars
"Stupendously unbelievable--but very entertaining sequel--to the action hit; while waiting for his wife at to land at Washington's Dulles Airport, Willis dives head-first into trouble when he gets wind of an impending terrorist-type plot. Lots of violent, large-scale action, and lots of fun--just don't look for lots of logic. Based on Walter Wager's novel 58 minutes."

My favorite part of this movie is when all the circling airplanes get permission to land and they make it seem like huge passenger planes can land on a dime. They all just come right down and you can see lots of big airplanes all over the ground.

I liked it but it was trying too hard to mimic the setup of the first movie. Dennis Franz was annoying but both William Sadler and John Amos were solid as the villains.

My favorite bit is when McClane shows Sipowicz the gun has blanks by firing directly at him. He can fire directly at a police captain and thankfully all the other cops didn’t immediately gun him down.

it also has one of the most shocking moments in any action film. When the villains crash a plane filled with innocent men, women, and children and John McClane is helpless to stop it

I liked the red herring--Dennis Franz deliberately did things to draw suspicion to himself.
"You'd be surprised what I earn in a month."
"Whatever we can think of, they can think of." His shifting eyes make you wonder.
The escape from the cockpit full of grenades was clever.

7/10.
I used to like it more, but it tries to hard to re-do the first movie and feels contrived. Still fun but disappointing.

7/10. I used to like it more, but it tries to hard to re-do the first movie and feels contrived. Still fun but disappointing. I liked Die Hard 3 and 4 more (the one with Samuel L. Jackson and then "Live Free or Die Hard" about cybersecurity).

Jackson gleefully playing the role of the cynical sidekick. Ending felt a bit rushed though. Die Hard 4 didn't work for me, however. A very generic OTT Noughties action flick.

Solid action movie, but turn your brain off at the door. It also suffers from a little late 80s/early 90s cheese, but still arguably the best of the sequels and McClane is simply a wiseass instead of the cynical, bitter asshole he became.

Never seen it, is it any good? We wouldn't have been praising it and celebrating its anniversary here overall if we didn't think it was good.
