Install uBlock Origin by Raymond Hill on your Firefox/Chrome browser. the internet generally sucks without a decent ad-blocker. also, to get rid of the BS on this site specifically, add the following lines into the 'My filters' section on uBlock Origin... IMDB2.freeforums.net##.c-pb-plus__container IMDB2.freeforums.net###remove_ads_link IMDB2.freeforums.net##div[id*="-banner"] IMDB2.freeforums.net##div[id*="overlay"] IMDB2.freeforums.net###ad1 IMDB2.freeforums.net###wrapper > div:nth-of-type(5) IMPORTANT NOTE: change all of those capital letters on the "IMDB2" part back to lower case otherwise those filter won't work! ; for whatever reason this site capitalizes that part as you can't type lower case and lower case is required in the filters section for those filters to work.
Use the custom filters above and watch all of the junk disappear on these boards

Ads in general are fine. But most ads on the Internet, including on proboards are not ads so much as poorly disguised scams and click bate. Can't proboards advertise Cheerios, Tampax, or Preperation H instead of "4 Signs You're About to Die!" "Back Pain? CLICK HERE NOW!" and "What it may mean if your dog sleeps!"? And no those aren't jokes. Those are actual "ads" I see on this site daily!

Smart phones as in android based phones... it's basically the same. on the mobile/android Firefox you can install the same uBlock Origin (by Raymond Hill) on that to.
I don't mess with iPhones as they are overpriced compared to Android based phones. as a general rule for me... I avoid Apple products.
p.s. but there are potential half way decent alternatives but catch is, it's more difficult to setup and might not be a option for many people, like ad-filtering through ones router. so this way any device connected to it gets some level of ad-filtering without those devices having to install anything. but this is not something super easy to do. but if, for example, you got a old laptop you don't mind leaving on all of the time you can install Pi-Hole to it to get some level of network wide ad-filtering. it's not as thorough as uBlock Origin but it gives people a decent level of ad-filtering without having to install anything on the devices that are connected to the router.

mslo79... I don't do iPhones either. Not only are they way overpriced, they are subpar and not user friendly at all. There's a reason the fifth avenue store is open 24 hours. Now my Android came automatically with Google. Any help?

Tampax said maybe. Preperation H also said no but they're sending me some free samples. In the meantime I guess we'll make do with scams and click bait.

deembastilleYou can install Firefox on a Android phone and then install the uBlock Origin extension in Firefox. I never tested those filters I posted in my previous post on a phone but I would imagine they will be okay especially if these forums use the same basic site on a smart phone as they do on a desktop it should work (but if it uses a mobile version, I never tested that personally). either way, it's a good idea to install uBlock Origin (or other decent alternatives) on a browser as a general rule as it removes pretty much all ads on websites like YouTube etc so you can just watch whatever video your trying to watch without any ads. Plus, another negative with iPhones is they are more locked down than a typical Android phone is and stuff like replacing the battery or putting in a MicroSD card etc you can't do on a iPhone to my knowledge where as that's pretty typical for the average user to do on a Android.

mslo79. Thanks. I tried the unlock and although I had to reclip the page to my home screen I just don't like Firefox in general as an avenue for the internet. For me, this is the only site where the ads are just in your face, and that's only sometimes. Don't much mind the two ads side by side at the bottom but in occasion they have one long vertical and when there's no reason for the ad to be that long. If I've been to a site where I don't frequent and I notice the ads are really inappropriate (one about NRA and the rights to have a gun kept on popping up and even after I requested it MULTIPLE times for not to see it, it was still being shown) I take notice and not return to the site. I go back to the card that led me there and say stop seeing stories from Whatever... Re Apple crap...

deembastilleI would imagine Google's Chrome browser should react similarly with uBlock Origin on a Android phone (but I have not tried it). but I only use Chrome as a backup browser in general as it's more resource hungry than Firefox. but with that said, Chrome is the dominate browser as nearly 69% of people use it according to the browser market share figures online (at least for desktop/laptop users). on my desktop computer... I have my Firefox browser more secured/locked down for general browsing where as I have Chrome installed but only as a backup browser (with no extensions on it at all (so the only ad-filtering it see's is what my Pi-Hole setup filters out)) which I usually use for something like placing a order online or other more sensitive things of that sort (but for general web browsing I have been using Firefox as my primary browser for more than 15-16 years). because on my Firefox browser I got uBlock Origin in a more locked down state (in it's default state it should generally be good enough for most people though as it's designed to filter out as much as it can without breaking websites) which is a bit more secure but as a trade off can break certain functionality on websites, but I pretty much know how to work around it etc. but obviously, when people design ad-blockers their general goal is to make it so it filters as much ads/junk as possible but without breaking website functionality for the default state of the ad blockers. there is also a small chance just from visiting a website with rogue ads that it can infect ones computer... www.cnbc.com/2014/05/20/beware-of-malicious-ads-that-can-harm-computers-without-a-click.html ; stuff like that is another reason to block-ads by default. but if your Chrome browser is up to date along with your operating system and you don't have crap like Adobe Flash etc running, you should be secure enough and the risk of rouge ads infecting your system should be minimal right from the start.

I'm getting adverts for Lexus cars. I drive a totally basic Ford. Someone got their wires crossed. I'm not even shopping for cars since I've been driving the same car for years. I wonder what new advert will pop up now... I have such a low mind. When I read the above post, I put an extra "o" into the third from the last word. Selective dyslexia strikes again!

A good ad blocker usually does the trick for your web browser like Ad Block for Firefox or Chrome.

Now I'm getting ads for toenail fungus and saggy underarms and something about a body builder who gave up alcohol, oh yeah, and two ads about "secret stretches" for sciatica pain that are "baffling" chiropractors. Uh huh, I'm sure.
