Watched this back in February for the first time in years and still love it. I think this was the first movie where you see the growing of the hairs and development of the wolf in detail. 9/10

9/10 and still one of the very few movies that does a good job of balancing horror and comedy.

A fullblooded horror movie, mixed with British dry humour, and the mix worked. 9/10, it didn't work when they went to Paris for a belated sequel.

9/10 for me - a horror/comedy classic. Definitely one of the best werewolf films out there.

I watched that one just before going to London for the first time in like 1992, then we went to the station that is in the movie late at night, that was actually fun. For a 80´s horror movie, I will give it an 8.

I saw this as a kid and I didn't like it, I didn't get it. But I've been on a werewolf binge lately, watched Silver Bullet, The Wolfman (original and remake) and The Howling, all with much to commend them but then I noticed Amazon Prime featured An American Werewolf in London. Honestly, it left such a bad impression as a kid I didn't really want to watch it but I started it and kept watching. This is my pick for the definitive werewolf film. I think it is a masterpiece. It has horror and comedy and romance and is very well directed, filmed entirely in the the UK, some beautiful locations. The werewolf attack in the beginning is wonderfully creepy. The cast is very good but I have to point out David Naughton delivers a performance I don't even know how to describe, it is so unusual and refreshing, I loved it. He is often so light and carefree, but that quickly contrasts with the reality he cannot avoid and it works so well. His performance and that of Jenny Agutter, who quickly develop a sweet and effective romance, are at the heart of this film. Griffin Dunne was also very good as his best friend Jack. He provides a gruesomely unexpected comic outlet. In fact, these scenes with his decomposing 'ghost' were the ones I remembered the most as a kid. There are a few special effects minor missteps I refuse to hold against the film. But that's about it. This film gets a 10/10.
