Sissy Spacek for a nomination in "Raggedy Man"
And I really think Faye Dunaway should have won for "Mommie Dearest". Some people see her performance as camp and I totally get that. But on the other hand, I've never seen an actress so fearlessly put herself out there as Dunaway did here. She is so "ON"...
And maybe a nomination for Sandy Dennis as Best Supporting actress in "The Four Seasons". But then I always think she's really good. And I have always loved that movie.

It's just such a cozy little movie. I feel like I want to crawl inside and become instant friends with the characters. They have so much fun together. I tend to like the female characters in it slightly more than the male characters.

I forgot Maureen Stapleton for Best Supporting actress in "The Fan". The movie was okay for me, but I thought Stapleton was excellent. I've never seen "Reds" and seriously doubt that I ever will. Those long historical epics are not my cup of tea.

Those long historical epics are not my cup of tea. Reds is excellent as historical epic, which I guess means it’s probably not your thing. It’s less successful as a romance, and Beatty unwisely allows that side of the story to take over, but it’s well worth seeing once, and the acting and period details are exceptional. It is indeed very long! I marginally prefer Ragtime, however. Emma Goldman - played superbly by Stapleton in Reds - was cut out of Ragtime (she was a significant character in the novel) presumably to avoid comparisons with Reds, released the same time. For all it’s flaws Reds is imo far better than the grisly On Golden Pond and the dreary Chariots of Fire, the other big awards players that year.

I didn't like the schmaltzy and condescending "On Golden Pond", either. I never saw "Chariots of Fire". My disturbed bible banging uncle loved it and that was enough for me.
