A Room with a View 7/10 A ROOM WITH A VIEW is a 10 out out 10 for me. Saw it on the big screen back in the day, and on Blu Ray about two years back. Loved it both times.

hitchcockthelegend The Prisoner of Shark Island looks interesting. Warner Baxter had as many (or more) “comebacks” than John Travolta. An interesting career. I still remember When and Where I first saw The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (winter (Jan or Feb) of 1968, Ft. Benj Harrison base theater, Indianapolis, Indiana). I was THAT impressed. Contempo critics of Cobra made fun of its cartoonish violence and, as you say, OTT villains. But it is still a lot of fun and car crashes and gun fights and blowin’ stuff up. Classic Line: a evildoer with a bomb threatens to blow up a store. “Don’t care,” drawls Stallone. “I don’t shop here.” Road To Perdition. Wonderful film. Jude Law turns in an early notice getting performance. Tom Hanks again shows his range. Paul Newman is magnificent in a late career triumph. Directed by Sam Mendes. Max Allen Collins is one of the credited writers. Cinematography by Conrad L. Hall (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, American Beauty, Marathon Man). Road To Perdition was Hall’s last. He died the next year. As a casual fan of magic (both large illusions and close-up slight of hand, both of which feature in this movie) and magicians, I was interested in Now You See Me. It mostly didn’t disappoint except for a stretch in the middle when the main characters are off-screen (e.g. an eight-minute FBI raid on an apartment house with a resulting car chase through the streets of New York City that I could have done without). I liked it and hurried on to Now You See Me 2. Baxter was a fine actor, this one plays to his strengths. Cobra is what it is, it's not like it's trying to be cerebral ,, plenty of crash bang and wallop for your money. Perdition, yeah I hadn't seen it for many a year and thought it about time, wonderful film, simple narrative but executed with serious panache. I loved Now You see Me, till the ending (reveal), it's just corny. Haven't seen the sequel, I hear it's bad, though there's a 3rd one now as well I think?

re Now You See Me = I'm a voice crying alone in the wilderness. Yes, I loved the first half of the movie. I felt it building to something special....and then THAT ending. Made NO sense. I was angry and betrayed. Then I realised the film had treated its audience with so much contempt, I was offended. And a film which makes me feel offended is an automatic 1/10 regardless of any positive qualities. Fully understand your ire!

Ghostbusters is my first cinema movie since the shutdown 4 months ago - re-opened last week with a bunch of popular 80s/90s movies - off to see Predator tomorrow. Was there many in the theatre? My son and I made 2 customers for Ghostbusters. The last time I was in such a minority was my wife and I at Chaplin. An odd feeling.
Predator had 8, and it was in the largest of the 8 theatres in the multiplex.

hitchcockthelegend" Not seen New Blood, Beginning and Goes to Hell, will catch them when they show up eventually on cable." Those three, plus Jason Takes Manhattan are the weakest of the series, IMO. The New Blood was notoriously sabotaged by the censors and some producer who never should have been assigned a movie like this. The attempt was made to make a good Jason movie, but the end product is lacking. I have never seen Part 3D in 3D still. It was my very first Friday movie all those years ago, so I never had to wonder where the hockey mask came in, I'd always known, since this is where it is introduced. Jason X, on paper, sounds ridiculous, but is actually pretty good. The frozen face smash is definitely a highlight of the series, and who doesn't love Uber-Jason?

While I don't dislike Manhattan as much as many fans of the series do, it really should have been called Jason Takes the Boat! - since most the action is on there!

Paramount was ashamed of the series, even though they were the ones who kept ordering more. The original script had much more NYC action, but the producers kept cutting it out for cost reasons, so they had to do most of it on the boat. Part VIII was the last Paramount movie, New Line Cinema made the next three, which included Freddy vs. Jason, which had been planned for Part VII but had to be rewritten because a deal couldn't be made with NLC, who had always owned the rights to Freddy.
