Yeah, merely pretty good USED to mean not worthy of Best Picture. Something has drastically changed in Hollywood. Merely good movies have always been nominated for Best Picture. Nothing has changed in that regard. Airport (1970) is not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination. I agree. "Airport" was a slightly better than average movie. It was somewhat entertaining with a big all-star cast. Maureen Stapleton is, IMO, the best thing about it. To be honest, I found the sequels all more entertaining than the 1970 movie, with "The Concorde" actually being my favorite. It is just so cheesy it is unbelievable. The scene with the two girls rocking out in the galley in their stocking feet (drinking Coca colas!) is my favorite bit!  If a movie is going to be bad, it might as well go all the way to terrible. Though "Airport" is still a better movie than "Love Story", which also got a BP nod.
