In your opinion, which BTTF sequel is better and why?

I like II more since it had a lot going for it. I do like III for keeping things simple, but I wasn’t as big on the Wild West setting. Both are good though.

I prefer 2 for the stuff where they have to hide from themselves to avoid creating a paradox. Marty showing up at the end to confront Doc Brown "I'm back!" some clever stuff in that.
And Biff turning into Donald Trump in the 80s.

I prefer 3. 2 got too convoluted and silly, from the plot to gags. 8 Thomas F. Wilsons and MJF in drag? Eh.
The appeal of the franchise to me are the characters, which 1 and 3 focus on.

I don't care much for either sequel.
Back to the Future: Part II is better because it is more interesting, as convoluted and silly as the movie might be.
Back to the Future: Part III is fun, but the story is forgettable. It is honestly just an old west blur in my memory and I watched it just as recently as Part II.

III
Part II felt like a quick exhibition of 2015, before descending into hell. It was saved by going back to 1955.
I've always thought had they treated 2015 with as much nuance as they did 1955 & 1855, it could've been f'ing brilliant. Instead they filled every last ounce of screen space with tacky future junk. The McFly 2015 home was well done, more of that taste could've been good.

I’ve always preferred III, but I haven’t seen either in years.

Part II. I think it was more creative.
There were more settings. You had the wacky future scenario, you had the dystopian version of 1985 which was like a modern take on Pottersville, and you took a trip back to the first film's 1950s to see things from a different perspective. I also think it examines Marty as a character more closely because the events of the film are caused entirely by his shortsightedness and impulsiveness, which are flaws that he needs to resolve. Not exactly Shakespearean, but appreciated.
Part III is a good movie but once they get to the Wild West, it goes downhill for me. It seems to drag more than the other two films and because Marty is so far removed from his own time, the stakes seem lower. If Part II was the Marty movie, Part III is the Doc movie. And while I do like Doc as a character, he was ultimately a zany secondary character. We've spent two movies worth of time with Marty and his family issues only to veer suddenly into a story that is about Doc. It doesn't seem like the fitting conclusion to a trilogy though, admittedly, I'm not sure what else they could do with Marty. Oh, and the Wild West as a setting is a little drab compared to what the second film did.
So yeah, Part II for me.

Prob 2. I love westerns and 3 isn't bad at all but I watched 2 a whole lot more as a kid so I tend to hold it in higher regard.

Part 2. I like it even better than the original. The 1980s vision of what 2015 would look like, the alternate 1985, the rich and powerful Biff, it simply kept my interest more.

Part III.
It's a fantastic conclusion to the trilogy with a more distinct story-line that transports the duo to a very different time and location. The soundtrack outclasses what we get in Part II as well.
I do like the second one, but it very much feels like a middle chapter/half-story as opposed to a full film in its own right, re-uses many of the settings from the first film and is definitely the most dated of the three, given its now thoroughly antiquated depiction of 2015.
