Pub giant Wetherspoon revealed today that it will reduce prices on meals and drinks following the Government's decision to cut VAT on food, coffee and soft drinks. The chain, which has 867 pubs, has also produced posters praising Chancellor Rishi Sunak as a 'legend' after the decision to reduce VAT from 20 per cent to 5 per cent. Messages including Sunak's Specials and Dishi Rishi will be displayed alongside details of lower prices on some drinks and food in place from this Wednesday. The company, which was founded in 1979, said it will fully pass on the tax cut to its customers, including real ale, coffee, soft drinks, breakfasts and other food. At 764 of its pubs a pint of Ruddles Bitter will now be £1.29, down 50p on average; while a Doom Bar will be £1.79, down 31p; and Abbot Ale will be £1.99, down 40p. Lavazza coffee and tea will be reduced to £1.29, down 16p on average; and it will be £1.69 for a 14oz glass of Diet Pepsi and £1.79 for standard Pepsi, down 11p. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8516931/Wetherspoon-reduce-prices-hospitality-VAT-cut.html

Not a yuge fan of their chips. They use frozen oven chips I think. Their fish is average. I won’t be going back for a while. Too risky imo, CV wise that is. I used to quite like their chicken Korma but the last time I had it I was disappointed.

Bugga. I've just gone on a diet and have imposed a no-beer ban on myself.

full of dribbly old men at 9AM every morning. Very little trouble in a W pub though. Neds tend to avoid them. Plus the lack of piped music is a real boon.

On Burns' Night, they do a Haggis & Neeps which is pretty good, for about £4/5 and they will arrange a takeaway for you.

In the interests of providing more infotainment, and also as I'm bored shitless, I shall add that when it comes to fish suppers, I'm a staunch east coast chippy loyalist (Fife, East Lothian or Northumberland), and find anything else mediocre. But Wetherspoon's fish and chips were pretty near the top of the also rans, certainly comparable with your average greasy spoon or M&S cafe type thing. Oven chips though. That’s unforgivable.

That seems unequivocal, not that I read the article as I'm not reading that rag (as much as enjoy their ability to wind up Scousers). Perhaps I could get really into McCain's oven chips, if I ever allow my standards to slip. Which I won't. Some people like oven chips. I mean they're perfectly edible, but I like to get the real deal when eating out. I can't make real chips at home. Anyway, I wouldn't trust myself not to burn my home down!

Talking of food:
I like soups at lunchtime and for some years now I have been buying cup-a-soups from Tesco. I mix 2 different flavours together in a big soup mug, add hot water, give that a good stir and...mercy! mercy! it's too good! A lot better than most of the sex that I've had. One of the flavours is always Minestrone and the others vary from Beef & Tomato, Chicken, Cream of Vegetable, to... In the winter when it gets cold and I get hungry, I might mix 4 packets in a Pyrex dish and that might keep me going all-day

I had been making my own vegetable soups and blitzing them in a blender. Very nice usually, but the blender packed in after about four uses! PoS!

I assume that the blender came "off the back of a lorry"
