I'm reading a mish-mosh of whether schools will open in September. Seems that some will, some won't.
Thoughts? Do you send your kids to school? What do you do? What kinds of options are there for parents and kids?
I guess in the big picture: What will this mean?

I'd imagine they will give people the choice so long as they can get teachers to agree to return. You can't force someone to send their kids to school if doing so could be a death sentence for you.

Oh I know, believe me. I'm asking because I'm wondering what others would do as parents who have school age children. What would your choice be given the current circumstances?

Here in Indianapolis, IN... Many Schools are opening again on August 03... Five days a weeks, with full in class instruction... Using the same approved school year schedule, that was planned before this pandemic came along. However, Face Masks and Social Distancing with be implemented to the fullest extent possible, and whenever possible... And there are strict "sickness" protocols that students must follow when they get sick, and before they come back to school. For those parents/students that don't want to return at this time, there are Online/E-Learning options available to them. Schools also have back up plans read to go, in case schools are ordered to shut down again. Read all of the details here: www.ltschools.org/re-entry

I know it creates problems with baby sitting, but better that than a 2nd Covid wave or DEATH.

Does anybody have statistics on daycares and how they're doing this summer with the covid-19. I would think that would foretell what would be in store when schools open back up this fall.

Apparently some schools that won't be opening don't care about some students, and that they may also be in violation of federal law — the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
It's great that some students can do E-learning, and do quite well...
But, not every student is doing well with that type of schooling...
And as noted, in some cases, some children, are incapable of doing E-learning at all.
Acceptable options should be available for everyone...
Home Schooling... A blended curriculum... and Full in class instruction.

I'm not a parent, but if I were, I wouldn't send them back to school. As it is, I myself will return to work (I'm a teacher/admin) next week.

I have a 3 year old... Im not sending him to preschool or any of that shit. Fuck dat. Dont know if they are even open, didnt check tbh, just a pretty big nope right now. A friend of mine has a daughter that's supposed to start kindergarten and I have no idea what he's doing with her.. I think he said they were doing it online but idk how that'll work with little kids...you'd have to guide them the whole time. He's a single dad too which must make that more difficult.. glad we dont have to worry about school yet.

Don't go. Its too soon. Theres no real way to social distance in schools. Added to which do you really think kids are going to social distance anyway? Remote learning is the way to go... for now. Maybe in January?

What's going to be different in January?

I'm a teacher in a correctional facility. We're supposed to be able to go back to work Sept. 1st.
If they have been managing 50 in a dorm 8 in a classroom should be workable.
Unless I'm being naive.

What's going to be different in January? They keep talking about a vaccine, and the numbers going down. If they go down enough, if they go down to zero by then, we might no longer have an issue. But I have said "might" and "maybe".
