This happened to me recently with Uncut Gems (2019). When I saw it in theater I noticed people leaving and not coming back.
I guess they didn't like the main character. In the movie he's a bad guy who is a gambling addict and he cheats on his wife.
I enjoyed Uncut Gems though. The movie was great. Sandler does an outstanding job when he plays serious roles IMO.
They probably saw Adam Sandler and thought it was going to be another one of his Happy Madison films. Once it wasn’t, they didn’t want to stay. I have only walked out of a movie once. Halloween II (2009) Rob Zombie... and I actually liked Rob Zombies remake of Halloween

The Wicker Man '06 - I saw it with my friend and he bailed on me leaving me to see the crappy film alone.
Annabelle Creation - I recall a guy walking out early on that one.

The remake of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (the Tim Burton vision). My girlfriend at the time hated it so much she grabbed my arm and hauled me out. I didn't particularly like the movie, but I finish pretty much everything I start watching.
We actually got a little stuck in the hallway that goes to the exit (by the trash can), because about 10 other people were filing out as well.

Sausage Party - there was a full-on exodus during the food orgy. Only made the scene funnier.

Drive - A lot of people walked out after the elevator scene, I guess the movie turned out to be too violent for them.

Every movie I've ever seen the audience has stuck around till the end credits begin to roll, unless it's an MCU flick then most of audience sticks around to catch the post credits scene.

I remember people left during Django Unchained. I can get why people wouldn't enjoy that flick but I feel like you knew what you were getting going in.
I saw people leave at Scream 3 but I think that was mostly due to someone bringing a baby to the theatre and guess what, it started crying.

Grindhouse: Planet Terror & Death Proof.
Ppl leaving all over the place because they either didn't get it, or didn't want to sit through it all, or thought the first one's credits meant the ending. The rest of us had laughs & smirks enjoying them walk out.

People in my theater were annoyed with me because I kept laughing. Not only did I not want to walk out of the movie, it was one of the greatest times I have had watching a movie at the cinema.

The Witch
Edit: I walked out of Australia to walk around the movie theater lobby for like 20 minutes. The movie was that painful to watch. I had to leave and take a break before going back in.

Inherent Vice, where some guy stated he really hated Joaquin Phoenix which made me ponder if so why would you go see his movie.

The only think that I can think is that he didn't know who was in the movie. What is funny is that there are a lot of people who hate that movie and love everybody involved in the movie and that guy walks out because he dislikes the star of the movie.
