Well this year is pretty lame and I think a good deal of us would agree. Along with all the hell going on in the world I just think its a pretty weak year for film as well in my opinion. Even the films I enjoyed this year I cant say are really that good. What are your best and worst?
5 Favorite: 1. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge 2. Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn 3. The Invisible Man 4. Brahms: The Boy II 5. Blood and Money (aka Allagash )
5 Worst: 5. John Henry 4. The Night Clerk 3. Gretel & Hansel 2. The Captive Nanny 1. The Grudge

I have only seen seven movies released in 2020 so far and there is only two I like, which are...
1)The Gentlemen (2019-2020) - 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up) -)Bad Boys for Life (2020)
so while this year is pretty weak so far I kind of assume No Time To Die (2020) will be one of the best of 2020 and should be among my favorite movies in general given the past reputation of the Craig era James Bond movies. so I figure even if this year turns out pretty weak overall, there should be at least one movie that stands out for me and I think Top Gun: Maverick (2020) has potential to. but beyond these two, while there might be a little more I will like, it's likely going to be weak collectively lacking a couple of movies or so.
but comparing this decade's start to last decades start (i.e. 2010 vs 2020) is a rather large gap since 2010 was my #1 year of the previous decade overall and, at least so far, 2020 has been pretty weak. but looking at last decade... the earlier half was easily ahead of the later half overall as when I choose my Top 5 years of the previous decade they are almost all in the earlier half with 2015 taking the place of 2014. so in other words my Top 5 years of the previous decade are (in no order)... 2010/2011/2012/2013/2015.
on a side note... I figure if the general volume of quality movies in a typical year does not start to increase within the next five years or so (maybe ten years max), it's probably not going to. because looking at the year 2016 to date for me there was not a single year that exceeded three movies I gave a 7 or higher where as for measure in the 2010-2015 time frame, if I take the average movies in those years combined, it comes out to 6.7 movies (2014 would be the weakest single year in the 2010-2015 time frame I am using to measure this stuff but even that still managed to churn out four movies I scored a 7 or higher).
or another way to put it in terms of volume of movies I scored a 7/10 or higher...
2010-2015 = 6.7 movies per year average (if I exclude 2014 that average would rise to... 7.2 movies per year) 2016-2019 = 2 movies per year average
so as you can see the general volume of movies I score a 7/10 or higher in a typical year has taken a solid hit in recent memory even though it's been pretty consistent in the 2010-2015 time frame with 2014 having a little slip up.
I am hoping this decade (i.e. 2020-2029) has better than a 2 movie average per year that I score a 7 or higher than the 2016-2019 time frame had. so while that 2016-2019 is only a four year time period I am starting to think that might be the general trend for the foreseeable future. but with that said it's not like 2016-2019 was total crap though as I still had a total of seven movies that managed to make it into my favorite movies in general and another five movies a bit shy of that status. for measure there are only 157 movies straight up that are good enough for me to call a favorite movie and a additional 34 movies that are close to that status.

I liked “The Invisible Man” a lot.
Rented it on iTunes to watch at home.
