I really love Jerry Orbach in Crimes and Misdemeanors. He sets a completely different tone, not at all introspective, not particularly intellectual, a cut to the chase man of action. It’s such an unexpected tone in a woody Allen film. Orbach is a very underrated actor, capable of such delicacy.

I agree with Landau.
For the ladies, while I adore Diane in Annie Hall and Cate in Blue Jasmine, I give the edge to Judy Davis in Husbands & Wives - with a tip of the hat to Dianne Wiest in Bullets Over Broadway, one of the funniest performances I have ever seen.

Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine was pretty mind-blowing.

There are so many terrific performances in Allen's earlier films, hard to pinpoint one out. Whenever Diane Wiest crops up in an Allen film, it is always very memorable, winning 2 Oscars respectively for Hannah And Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway. She is a delight in Radio Days too. Jennifer Tilly was also terrific and hilarious in Bullets Over Broadway. Diane Keaton is an absolute delight in Annie Hall.
Mia Farrow is wonderful in The Purple Rose Of Cairo. Geraldine Page and Maureen Stapleton bring their own special brand of class and commanding presence to Interiors. As for the boys, I love Sean Penn in Sweet & Lowdown. What an unusual, outlandish and even heartfelt performance. He lost it all at the end. Danny Aiello is just perfect in The Purple Rose of Cairo and Jeff Daniels was very refreshing in his dual roles here. Martin Landau is sublime in Crimes & Misdemeanors. Chazz Palminteri was one of the many assets to Bullets Over Broadway. Michael Caine in his first Oscar winning turn is also appealing to watch in Hannah And Her Sisters, one Allen film that I think is hit and miss. Both Weist and Caine are a saving grace here.

AND, of course, Martin Landau.

Frankly it took me a while to understand how good Michail Caine was in Hannah and her sisters. One of Woody’s strong points as a writer is that he gets how phoney and self aggrandizing most of our interior monologues are. To see , or rather hear Caine musing in his head, only to do the exact opposite is so well done , and accompanied by great physical humour I did not know he had.

Where to start?
If I had to pick one it would probably be Dianne Wiest in RADIO DAYS (below on one of her series of bad dates - Robert Joy has a rather touching secret.... always think of that scene when I hear GETTING SENTIMENTAL OVER YOU) ......although HANNAH AND HER SISTERS is a triumph for her too - and both were exceptionally well cast and acted movies.
Mariel Hemingway in MANHATTAN moves me like no other in a Woody film -especially the break up scene and the final sequence - it may be resolutely unwoke but she seems like Woody's ideal partner
Landau & Orbach in CRIMES for sure...
Anjelica Huston in CRIMES and MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY
Judy Davis, Sydney Pollack, Liam Neeson, Lysette Anthony & Juliette Lewis in HUSBANDS AND WIVES
Diane & Woody in MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY are a dream
Elaine May and Michael Rapaport both give great dumb in SMALL TIME CROOKS and Tracey Ullmann & Hugh Grant shine too
Mia in PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO... and she made the critics sit up with BROADWAY DANNY ROSE - well out of her comfort zone
Julie Kavner in OEDIPUS WRECKS
Charlotte Rampling in STARDUST MEMORIES
Sam Waterston in CRIMES AND MISDEMEANOURS and HANNAH AND HER SISTERS
Barbara Hershey in HANNAH AND HER SISTERS - always thought she got lost in the prize giving (well deserved! ) for Wiest's showier part - and Mia was great too as the boring, normal, responsible one
if PLAY IT AGAIN SAM counts then Woody Diane & Tony Roberts "You can reach me on Frozen Tundra...89765")
Lucy Punch and Josh Brolin in YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER
Edward Norton in EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU
Radha Michell and Josh Brolin in MELINDA AND MELINDA
Danny Aiello in RADIO DAYS and PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO
Corey Stoll in MIDNIGHT IN PARIS (My favourite screen Hemingway by some margin)
LLoyd Nolan and Maureen O'Sullivan HANNAH AND HER SISTERS
Woody & Judy Davis worked well together in TO ROME WITH LOVE
Kristen Stewart in CAFE SOCIETY was impressive
Charlize was fun in her two and I thought Branagh made a great Woody in CELEBRITY
Can't wait to see what Gina Gershon makes of grade A writing in RIFKIN'S FESTIVAL
The only great talent I thought he under used was Claire Bloom.
Yes please to casting Catherine Keener, Matthias Schoenaerts, Kristin Scott thomas, Clive Owen, Anna Friel (in a bigger part than YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER), Alden Ehrenreich, Domnhall and/or Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes and Tilda Swinton in a future Woody......

Woody & Judy Davis worked well together in TO ROME WITH LOVE A huge array of actors have been suggested in your post and others, but you are the only poster to nominate Woody himself (and even then as a co-share). I think there is a moral there somewhere. [Incidentally, in one of the few "Woodies" I have not seen.]

[Incidentally, in one of the few "Woodies" I have not seen.] I named him as one of my three favorite "modern actors"( in a recent poll here) along with Malkovich & M Schoenaerts - Sterling Hayden, Dana Andrews and Laurence Harvey were my classic era pics. No one has made me laugh so consistently when watching film as Woody.
ROME is second - or third tier - really but his segment is great and the Ellen Page one was fun.. the other two sections were less compelling.
I am 2/3 way through watching 70 of his movies in chronological order as a lockdown project - I;m up to JADE SCORPION - which probably explains my extensive response - most are fresh in my mind.,,,,,

For me, his best performances are in Play It Again Sam and Annie Hall.

Yes - My marathon proved that a surfeit of Woody was possible !- I'm on the second of two intermissions in my marathon - a bit Woody'd out!
Agree those two are great - but I like SLEEPER, SMALL TIME CROOKS, MANHATTAN, MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY EVRYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU and HOLLYWOOD ENDING especially for his performances

I would vote for Diane Keaton in Annie Hall. But I really liked Sean Penn in Sweet and Lowdown.
