And Connery was just an older, male version of that bimbo. Seriously? Henry Sr. is a well-developed character with a clear relationship with Indy that spans a range of emotions (funny, dramatic, sad and subtle signs of respect). He also has some connection to the film's main artifact and has a character arc where he grows as a result of his adventure (he learns there are more important things than historical artifacts). Towards the end, he gets to be part of the action as well and helps Indy fight the Nazis. Willie Scott on the other hand, is a demeaning role that requires Capshaw to do nothing but scream and complain about everything throughout. There's a reason why she's seen as a major step down from Marion Ravenwood. Thanks, Ravio, I can respect that point, totally valid. It just didn't work for me to have an old man tagging along on the adventure.

What does him being old have to do with anything? He's a character who's entire life was based on studying artifacts and history (plus, he's a guy supposed to be in his early 60's, not a 95 year old).
He's not really "tagging along" to begin with, since Indy spends the first half of the film trying to locate him and for the rest of the film, they both are equally invested in stopping the Nazis from reaching the Grail.

I didn't enjoy 66 year old Indy traipsing around in KotCS, either. Painful to watch.

Like the majority of the votes, Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favourite, but the original three movies are close to each other. I find them to have value for different reasons.

I got to wonder when Indy 5 finally comes out (if it gets made) where it'll rank. It'll be interesting to see how it closes out the series.

If the reaction ends up being even worse that'll be something to see.

Looks like it may not be too much longer for 5 to happen with the news it's being eyed next by Spielberg.
