I was interested in this article about Mike Hodges in The Guardian: Mike Hodges & Black RainbowI picked up a DVD of Black Rainbow for a dollar when our local DVD rental place closed down. Get Carter is one of the great Brit movies (so great that I even like Michael Caine in it!) so I was interested to stumble on another film by the same director which I did not know existed. I had no idea it was a "missing" movie. In our "con-men" thread I wrote this: Black Rainbow (1989) dir: Mike Hodges (of Get Carter fame) : another fake medium (or is she?). Not a great film but has some great moments and Rosanna Arquette was never lovelier.
and this (after BATouttaheck had discusses "Ghost") Thanks, BAT, you have laid a ghost for me.Watching Black Rainbow (1989) dir: Mike Hodges I found the scene where fake medium Rosanna Arquette is moved to utter true prophecies (against her will) very compelling. It reminded me of something but I could not think what. The two instances are handled differently. Goldberg's as comedy, and Arquette's as disturbingly psychological. The article calls it a "supernatural thriller" but is only becomes overtly supernatural at the very end and, not, I think, to the movie's advantage.
