The last time I saw this was 2009. With a movie finally set during the future war, the potential was full. Nothing here can touch the opening of Terminator 2. Sam Worthington is pretty good while Christian Bale is rather wasted. It’s biggest sin is being completely forgettable. 2 out 4.

7/10 I like it.
1-2 - Excellent
Salvation - Good
The rest are lame.

Massive let down. The future was supposed to be darkened battlefields... not giant Transformers chasing after ppl in the sun.

Maltin Movie Guide Review:
Terminator Salvation (2009) - 3 out of 4 stars
"In the year 2018 a handful of surviving humans wage war with the machines that rule the planet, run by a network known as Skynet. John Connor (Bale) is part of the armed resistance trying to destroy this army of terminators--but he doesn't know what to make of a superstrong stranger (Worthington) who shows up with no memory of where he came from. Viscerally exciting (if sometimes ear-splitting) blend of action and science fiction has visual effects to spare but boils down to an epic battle between the good guys and the bad. Available director's cut runs 118 minutes."

It's the only Terminator movie I don't like...
1)T2 (1991) - 7/10 (within my Top 157 movies) 2)T3 (2003) - 6.5-7/10 (within my Top 157 movies) 3)T5 (2015) - 6-6.5/10 (within my Top 191 movies) 4)T1 (1984) - 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up) 5)T6 (2019) 6)T4 (2009) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down)
like the OP said, T4 is forgettable. has no re-watch value and that's where movies are ultimately made or broke.
NOTE: I have only seen T6 once so far. but currently ill place it #5 even though it's probably pretty close to interchanging with the 1st movie.

It seemed ok when I saw it, but I haven’t thought of seeing it again.

I remember enjoying the truck chase. Sam Worthington was better suited than Christian Bale. Which it’s still weird he’s even in this.

Didn't like the giant terminators. Worthington is so boring.

I remember it being my least favourite, even more so than Genisys. I’ll give it another chance soon if I change my mind.

I like it for what it is. A sort of fan fiction Mad Max/Terminator hybrid. It is a completely unnecessary movie, but I'll take it over the rehashes and contrived convoluted rehash sequels after T2. They are even more pointless imo. All we see in the flashbacks in the first 2 movies are all out war zones. This movies shows more of every area and the general post-apocalyptic surroundings for the average person living in the future. They are away from cities and cities is where all the skulls and stuff would be.
Christian Bale is great casting as an adult Edward Furlong imo, though ironically they had originally cast him as a different character. Christian Bale said he would only agree to star in the movie if he could play John Connor.
I have many issues with the movie, but it is an entertaining and the most satisfying Terminator movies to come out after T2. It is McG's most competent film. I like the assortment of robots in the movie, like the robotic armed motorcycles and that is a cool chase scene too.
I especially like the half human, half cyborg that Sam Worthington plays. That is an interesting addition to the franchise.
1. Terminator 2 - 9.5/10 2. The Terminator - 8.5/10 3. Terminator Salvation - 6.5/10 4. Terminator 3 - 5.5/10 5. Terminator Genisys - 4.5/10 6. Terminator: Dark Fate - 4/10

I really liked Christian Bale in this in fact he was the best John Connor. Bruce Wayne hunting terminators sells itself I'm surprised you didn't like him. Sam Worthington was a dullard in this as he pretty much is in all his other fantasy movies.

I didn’t say he was terrible, but usually Bale is a picky actor who doesn’t say “yeah I’ll be in this McG flick”.
