I never thoguht of "Eskimo" as derogatory but I don't know many. Edmonton Inuit?
The CFL will be interesting to see fold out. Season was to start in June and the window is closing rapidly. No damn way you can play football in January in Edmonton or Winnipeg. The outdoor Grey Cup games have been played is dismal conditions
I like the CFL. He got a lot of it, living minutes from Hamilton. Football in June was fun, they passed, passed, passed while the NFL was still three yards rushing and a cloud of dust. Why the NFL took so long to implement the two point conversion is beyond me.

Rumours this week was Edmonton Empire... which is the whitest response ever. I think they just wanted to see about keeping all their EE logos & stuff.
Empire would be a really dumb name, esp for the CFL. As for 2020, the league keeps asking the feds for all the monies in the world... which is kinda like the CFL every year.

One I seen was Metis. The Metis were mixed French Canadian and Cree Indian people who fought a nasty little war with the Canadian government in 1885. The Metis call themselves "Metis". Depends if you look at the North-West Rebellion as a civil war or something like The Great Sioux War of 1876

It does seem they're rushing to get it behind them. I've not seen any other potential names bandied about... probably because it's been such a fast moving story. |

Edmonton seems to really want to keep the 'EE' branding. Eagles would be better than Empire. Egrets, Elks, Emus, Eels, Earwigs, Elders, Easyriders, Evangelists, Eternals, Earners, Ewoks... |

Just do it. Just to clarify, sponsors are pushing this. The team does not use anything Indigenous related other than the literal slang name Eskimos. Their mascots have been a polar bear & a football headed thing. They never use fight songs or Native imagery.
I think that's why it's always been given a pass, & why the EE right now is key... they're not abandoning anything other than what that second E stands for.
