My mystery reading up to about the 5th grade were The Hardy Boys. My first foray into adult mystery was the Perry Mason novels of Erle Stanley Gardner. I also first dipped into Ellery Queen about this time, but Gardner was first. Gardner made his only appearance in the classic Perry Mason series in the very last episode of the last season, appropriately titled The Case of the Final Fade-Outβ (Season 9 Episode 30. May 2, 1966). Iβm not sure if the actual final fade-out of the series is rueful or playful: Perry, Della, and Paul are going over the notes for their next case.

In commemoration, a scene from The Other Hamilton: The Musical featuring music inspired by The Bee Gees You win again, one hour's time, we do nothing but compete There's no case on earth, most verdicts make me the fool You win again, so many trials but if anybody can, you can There's no fight, I can't fight this battle in court with you
