It seemed there was aways a possible competition between iPads (tablets in general) and the regular personal computers (including Macs and MacBook Pros) that everyone had grown to use for work and leisure. I never thought of it as a competition although I have been using iPads since the first day they were released. I’m on my fourth now (a 12.9 inch iPad Pro from 2019). I’m working from home due to the virus so I use a MacBook Pro (and sometimes a Windows laptop) to connect to work. They are now my work computers. When I turn to leisure, I don’t usually stay with these. My iPad and iPhone do so many other things - so my leisure time tends to be engaged in things these devices know how to do. My iPad always has a physical keyboard attached unless I’m on a bus or something where I’m holding it in my hands. I have the bezel that uses magnetic attachments to hold the iPad in place so that the keyboard itself doesn’t use bluetooth and it doesn’t need to be charged at all. It gets its power and connection through the magnetic connectors. The bezel attachment has two connectors so there are two choices in how much the iPad tilts back while you’re using it. My bezel keyboard has English and Hebrew letters on the keys. I can never use this for work except for texting to coworkers or reading emails, but it’s my favorite thing for leisure. So I don’t see the competition. I think it has its own place.

Desktop computers blow away everything else in my book as you get more power, bigger screen, for less $. plus, typing on a keyboard is far faster than using touchpad junk which is a chore to use.
I largely avoid anything Apple due to them being overpriced and when it comes to computers, Windows based computers are the standard anyways since damn near everyone has one as nearly 88% of people have a Windows based computer and Mac's are only a bit over 9%.
about the only time it's even worth considering Apple stuff would be the iPhone but even then one can likely get a much cheaper Android based phone as off the top of my head I think iPhone is somewhere around $900-1100 which is ridiculous for a phone as one can build a entire PC for that price or less and it will be MUCH better. phones are okay to do something quick online, like look up something simple, but if I am going to really use stuff for any length of time a desktop is far better and generally more secure since they tend to get security updates much faster.
even if I was to prefer something a bit more portable... I would definitely get a proper laptop since it's a real computer unlike a random tablet/smart phone and the like which is a watered down internet experience and is a chore to use as, like I was saying, desktop keyboards are much easier to use especially if your using them for any length of time and that touchpad is a chore to use computer to a mouse.
p.s. for the record... while I can run Windows 10 on my computer, I have not used Windows at all for a while as I switched to Linux Mint (which is free) in Jan 2019. but I realize it's not realistic for everyone to do that since things are a bit more limited but it pretty much does what I need it to do. on a side note... Linux only has a little over 2% market share. but with that said... as a added bonus for Linux, it's pretty much virus free as it's just more secure to use Linux than Windows since viruses tend to attack Windows since damn near everyone uses it etc.

My point is that the iPad has a place in my life even while running both a Windows PC and a MacBook Pro, as well.

I guess maybe for some people. but I tend to look at it like this...
if a person already has a desktop(or laptop) and they already got a smart phone, it seems like iPad and the like it pretty much a waste of $ since one can use their smart phone for looking up something quick online and if someone wants to spend any length of time online they are better off using their desktop(or laptop). so stuff like tablets seem to be sort of a odd ball in between item as it's got a bigger screen than a smart phone which is nice but I figure if one is going to spend any length of time online they are better off on a proper computer and if it's only for a few minutes or something a smart phone is good enough. plus, unless iPad/tablets are pretty cheap, which I doubt they are, it's just that much more reason not to get one.

I don't browse the internet that much anymore.
I do other things that iPads do well, instead.
Laptops and MacBook Pros are nice (and I have one of each), but they are mostly for work now.
My iPad is more for leisure and it goes all over the house with me.
