I'm still waiting to dream the winning lottery numbers.

I used to have the most horrible, almost nightly, dreams. Now, though not terrifying, they are usually on the same theme of me not having done what I was supposed to do, which makes me frantic.

I don`t put any stock in my dreams. Dreams are just dreams they mean nothing. I know some people see it this way. But for me it's the exact opposite. For me dreams mean everything. Now sorting them out can be a lot of work and sometimes I don't even try. But I know my great white shark dreams are significant.

I believe dreams are based on our wants, fears and reality. We see things in our dreams that have happened or come up in our daily lives. We may not exactly remember them happening but somewhere they have entered our subconscious. I remember the flying dreams but haven't had one in many years. I remember creating a dreaming mechanism where I would dream about "things" chasing me and the only way I could escape would be to crash into the ground to wake up. I would need to jump out of windows, jump off roofs or hit the ground while I was flying to escape whatever it was I needed to escape from. Most of the dreams I have now I don't remember. I went through a period of lucid dreaming a few years ago where I could control everything in my dreams. I haven't been able to do that again since that time. I will say that the flying dreams were always the best. They really are. Flying dreams are amazing. In my lifetime, I've experienced flying dreams maybe fifteen times. What a power surge!

I have had precognitive dreams, approximately 250 lucid dreams, and I have also experienced vibrational state twice. Once I asked an important question before going to sleep and received an answer to it in a dream. I have also had an OBE once, and it was clearly not a dream. Although I haven't managed to induce an OBE yet by using dream conversion, the results have nevertheless been interesting. Sometimes I have seen the background behind the dream and two times the result has been vibrational state. Recently I have tried to convert lucid dream into OBE, and I have found myself in a pleasant darkness. Floating in that dark void was both relaxing and invigorating.
Most of my dreams are very mundane and boring, though.

I firmly believe that our dreams reflect our authentic selves. There can be no other way. My best dreams are my "flying" dreams. Oh, to glean the Pacific Ocean at 45 MPH is exhilarating!!! I can't imagine anything in real life coming close. One of the best dreams I ever had (this was maybe 20 years ago) had me running through a wheat field, jumping off a cliff and landing on top of a killer whale, going 50 MPH. It was just like being there. My goodness, I've never experienced anything similar. I think that they point out our anxieties but I don't think of them as much more after that. I don't think that they are omens. Random celebs show up in my dreams as well as people from my past. Whether I contact those people or not after the dream doesn't seem to make a great impact on my life. A week ago I got a truck ride home from Freddie Mercury. It was random but I doubt it meant anything other then some continuing fear I may forget where I parked my car or that it may one day get stolen.

I have had a lot of those and still do on occasion. In my case, usually about being in college and suddenly realizing I haven't shown up for any classes all semester. What is strange about that is that I have never taken as much as a full year of college. Just a few courses. I have also had a few of the legendary "actor's nightmares", that stage actors get, when I worked in theatre. They involve forgetting lines, missing rehearsals and not being able to find the theatre on the night of a performance.

I solved a murder mystery on a cruise ship with Shelly Hack. I did shots in a dive bar with Starsky and Hutch. And many, many more. I will never meet any of these people in "real" life, let alone any of the activities mentioned above. But for these dreams, I am thrilled. The feeling here is intact.

I had the pleasure of attending a book selling and question/answer session with wonderful psychiatrist Judith Orloff. She is very much into psychic phenomena and she relayed one of the most fascinating examples I have ever heard. She told the time she was asleep and in her dream she was presented with a seven digit phone number. When she woke up, she was compelled to dial the number and as it turned out, it was the number of a nearby hospital. She was told that her mother had been admitted to the emergency room. This was where her dream led her. Wow. She also gave these free mini readings for select audience members. She told me that I had a gift for poetry. So cool.

Now that you mention it I did have a dream with a glimpse of Rutger Hauer and then the next day a customer at the bookstore I worked at mentioned him while looking for the Blade Runner book. I thought it was a weird coincidence and may have meant something at the time. But nothing came out of it.

But when something like that happens, I know to make note of it. I don't personally believe in coincidence. What I do feel when synchronicity happens is that I am in alignment with the universe. Whatever I am doing, it is the right thing. I take it as a reassuring sign. P.S. Your Rutger Hauer story was a very cool thing to happen. Very nice.

It's rather obvious that dreams are a sorting mechanism for the subconscious. Themes which come up during the day often show up in dreams as if the brain is categorizing and organizing the day's thoughts. So they're important in understanding oneself. Utilitarian.
We often hear of the oblique dream, where a ghost of the past or an apparition of the future appears. That was nicely written.

I've got dreams now as an adult that I've had since I was a small child, and they just keep repeating, either identically or in various formations of the same.
Thematically, many of them are similar in that I'm often lost, like in one of those crazy fun houses that you'd find in a carnival. Just when I think I've found the exit, I end up right back at the beginning, or the door is suddenly further away than it first appeared, or the room shifts and new hallways appear.
Also the usual, like stuck in quicksand, can't run, drowning, and a very peculiar one that I'm wearing shoes with two different heel heights. Weird stuff.

How would anybody know how much a spider dreamt? Science.
One difference though is that spiders dream with their eyes open (no eyelids), like resting computers on permanent standby, which makes them better space travellers. Some insects have lashes around their eyes for sensing, but these are similar to sensing body lashes, so not really eye lashes per se.
Humans can dream with their eyes open during sleep paralysis which is a terrifying experience that can cause the effect of waking twice (or even multiple times).
"In the book "On Intelligence" by Jeff Hawkins (one of my top 10 science books ever!) the author discusses machine intelligence - with the challenge that an intelligent being could lay in the dark and think - or dream. This is something unimaginable for computer intelligence.
So if a spider were to dream, it would prove itself more intelligent than the smartest AI software made (yet.) The question of animal intelligent is a still unfolding field, but I feel there's enough evidence (tool use, Alex the parrot, Chase the border collie, etc) that some animals are intelligent. If some are, then probably all are - we just haven't bridged the gap to communicate.
Based on all this I conclude that spiders are intelligent, have a working brain (of sorts) and thus probably do dream."
- Gene Sewell, Computer Programmer & Ware Designer
'Spiders are symbolic of feminine powers and a symbol of creativity due to the intricate webs they spin. The spider meaning represents mystery, growth, and power, just like the seal spirit animal. It symbolizes the shadow of yourself, or the dark aspect of your personality. ... Your spider totem wants you to celebrate your feminine energy and allow others to get to know you on a more personal level.'

My dreams would probably bore most people. After the initial visually stimulating visions they're visually vague and have some sort of alternate world take on real life. And I usually don't remember most of them anyways. I think your dreams would probably be animated. You'd think so but aside from the initial visions my dreams are rather free of animated content(except for one unusual dream that I had one time before I woke up and one that was like motion graphics on the meaning of life, one time that was one of my more vivid dreams). My dreams are more like a surreal novel or a movie like Last Year at Marienbad(which isn't much of an influence seeing as I first saw it not too long ago).

It has some very iconic scenes like the card/matchstick game and the shooting gallery among others but the constant 'Do you remember such and such' dialogue can get a bit old after a while.
