Does anyone find this odd that Mystique is the most developed and most fleshed out female character in the history of marvel movies? and I mean all marvel movies made by disney, fox , universal and sony?
Why do you think this is the case, I think it relied on 3 factors.
1.
Female anti heroes tend to be more interesting to write. DC has this too with Catwoman and is trying to do the same with Harley Quinn.
Catwoman from Batman Returns and Dark Knight returns were the most developed female character in DC movies.
2.
Height of J'Laws popularity. When First Class and DOFP were going on she was knocking out some great movies with oscar nominations, she was a teen idol thanks to Hunger Games. A celebrated actress who can act her way out of any movie. JLaw's gave the same performance in DOFP as her Silver Linings Playbook Oscar performance but DOFP unlike most marvel mcu movie benefits more, which leads me to point 3
3. X-Men unlike other Marvel series benefit more from drama driven comic films. There was meat to her story. I think the proof is in their best films. Logan, DOFP, X-men 2 to weakest films like X3 and Apocalypse, the main characters of those films always gave great performances, Jackman, Stewart, Mcavoy just to name a few.
Jennifer larence's Mystique been the central female to her male counterparts actor was beneficial.
If I missed out on some points, please add.
Also add what other female characters in marvel films got real development.
I think Ed Norton and Liv Tyler could have had some potential from Hulk 1.
