I was a huge “The Walking Dead” fan. I love Frank Darabont and his work. I even bought the black and white First Season commemorative blu-ray.
I used to watch TWD and the Talking Dead. I didn’t even watch it on DVR, my wife and I made sure we watched it live, every Sunday.
However, I noticed the series begin to lose direction. After the Governor story arc, the walk on the train track to Terminus was great. I loved the idea of them being on the run. In the woods. Zombies were the biggest threat again. They were broken into groups. Separated. With multiple story plots. I especially liked Beth and Daryl’s dynamic and Carol’s “look at the flowers” moment.
However, I felt like the build up to Terminus didn’t have enough of a payoff with the cannibals. There was so much more you could do with that. After Frank Darabont left, and his successor left... they went back to trying to copy the graphic novel. I liked them just being “inspired” by the comics, not follow them exactly.
So, after the Terminus situation was over and they find the preacher in the woods. That’s the arc where it should have ended. IMHO. Beth dies at the Hospital, Daryl carries her body out. They decide to go to Washington D.C. it should have ended with them all deciding to see what lays ahead for them there. Traveling on the road in their RV... then pan out and see a sh!t ton of Zombie herds everywhere in the woods. Tons of carnage and destruction in front of them. No end in sight.
Ambiguous ending. It almost felt like once they arrived in Alexandria, it was a different show. Every character started to almost get rewritten and changed. You could tell it was a different show runner and writer.
Thoughts?

If we talk about when the quality decreased, season 7 is the first one I thought was truly bad. And it stayed that way throughout season 8. However, it got better with season 9 and even season 10 had its moments.
If we talk about when the show lost its direction... I mean, did it ever have one? Even in comic form, was there ever a goal in mind? It seems like they can't get rid of every single walker on the planet, so they just have to try to live their lives as they were pre-apocalypse.

Probably when the "dead" stopped being any sort of threat and just a device structure to hang a poor soap opera onto. Half a dozen seasons ago.

I agree with you about everything and everyone changing when they got to Alexandria, and not in a good way. I had thought the concept of Alexandria interesting, but they screwed it up, in my opinion. The seasons have gone downhill ever since.

The seasons have gone downhill ever since. That’s exactly what I was trying to say. It seems like the show completely changed. I look at TWD as two shows. Before Alexandria and after.
