Abigail Disney has undertaken several causes over the years. I wonder if she spoke on behalf of any employees that got locked out because they belong Equity Union yet? TEXT: The granddaughter of Walt Disney Company's co-founder says the wealthy should be paying more taxes in the age of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Filmmaker Abigail Disney has signed an open letter calling for higher taxes on the rich as part of a coalition calling itself Millionaires for Humanity. "We're getting less resistance than we've gotten in the past," Disney said in an interview with CNBC, regarding the level of support from other wealthy individuals. "We're contributing so much less to the economy than we really ought to be, to the well-being of our fellow Americans. It's time for us to cough up a little bit more." "Governments have failed us because they're persistently underfunded and starved by this insistence that we table the money out of the public systems," Disney said. "If we had invested more in our health systems, in making sure the low and middle income workers had some savings, or owned their homes, or anything that assures a life that's secure, we would be doing so much better." Disney cited the effect of the pandemic on the middle class. "Millions and millions did not have enough money to ensure that they had enough to eat for the next week, much less however long this is going to last." "Money has been concentrated too heavily in too small a population. It needs to be driven across the economy. There are people in this country who are so wealthy that a 40% tax rate would do nothing to erode their quality of life." Abigail Disney has spearheaded past activities focusing on peace efforts with other activists, and last year spoke out against the working conditions for employees at Disneyland. www.cbr.com/abigail-disney-heiress-higher-taxes-on-rich/
