Beulah Zachary, who directed live TV drama in the 1940s. Many of her efforts are not listed on IMDb, as her shows only aired in Chicago. None of them survive, but kinescopes do survive of a show for which she was producer ("Kukla, Fran and Ollie", a very popular show in its day). Just thought some people might find this information interesting.

That is very interesting. How did you first hear of her?

I was doing research on early TV (and trying to find titles to make IMDb pages for) by reading TV reviews in old editions of Billboard magazine (these appear on Google Books). Her names pops up now and then. Helen Carson was another early female TV director (and worked at the same station), but information is even more sketchy on her work. A lot of old "local" shows aren't listed on IMDb.

Wolf, since there is so little biographical information about Beulah Zachary online, I decided to check the archives to see what I could find. Sadly, it appears that she was one of the 65 casualties in the American Airlines Flight 320 plane crash on February 3, 1959. She was reported as 'missing' in a newspaper article on February 5, 1959, so I assume that she didn't survive (although I could look further for a definite confirmation). Some biographical info: She was referred to as "Miss Zachary", implying that she never married and that it's her maiden last name. This could simplify finding out her final age. We also find out that she started working for Chicago-based station WBKB in 1944.

It's confirmed now. I see a 1960 article where Burr Tillstrom (star of Kukla, Fran and Ollie) mentions being depressed about her death. According to Find-A-Grave, her birth date was August 13, 1911. She was 48 years old at the time of her death.
