Each year I got a cake and one present bon. Beat you. Lol But my parents did not believe in friend parties . I think there should be some middle ground between expensive celebrations and virtually no celebration. What I always wonder is why don't these parents put that money toward a college education?

Have you seen some parents spending thousands and thousands on kid's first, second, or third year birthday parties? It's unbelievable! Those things are obviously more for the parent than the child. Actually at any age, I think that's just excessive, indulgent and a surefire way to set your kid up to being self-absorbed.

What pressures, and messages, are parents bringing to bear on their daughter, if the lifelong financial, and celebratory, focus is on her turning "sweet" sixteen?
That's creepy!
