It can be appreciated for being something we almost never get, and likely won't ever get again in a big budget film. Which is sexsploitation sci-fi horror. Name another one with a big bidget and an impressive cast. Exactly.
I own it and like it, but it's actually a little draggy in parts and the effects haven't aged well. If you like 90s sci-fi you should give it a go.

A boring film but a friend of mine loves to watch it simply for the nudity, which is pretty sad really.

I own it on dvd and must've seen it at least half a dozen times. I enjoy it for what it is a solid sci-fi flick. I know Michael Madsen has called it a bad movie, which is ironic considering how much dreck Madsen has put out throughout his career. This was also one of the few times when he was allowed to play the lead in a larger studio movie. Arguably most of the cast is wasted, they have very little to do, and regarding their characters one has to wonder why these particular people were chosen for this mission.
Natasha Henstridge is very convincing in her acting debut. She could've become a fine actress, if she had been offered better material.
The sex scenes are rather tame. Actually by today's standards the movie has little nudity, there is more nude skin on display in an average Game Of Thrones episode.
Donaldson did a solid job directing. They should've hired Paul Verhoeven though, this sort of material would've been right up his alley.

I liked the movie, but my least favorite aspect of it was Forrest Whitaker’s character. He’s an otherwise fine actor but his character didn’t work for me at all.

5/10. A slick piece of sci-fi trash that doesn't shy away from its sleaziness. But it's not as scary as it could be. Oh imagine if Paul Verhoeven directed it.

It is okay whenever Natasha Henstridge is onscreen, but when it goes back to the team it is very uninteresting. Some very talented actors are wasted here. The movie never gains any traction. Nothing is very thrilling or dramatic and even the eroticism is light-weight. It isn't even fun in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
4.5/10
