- Won 4 Ballon d'Or, likely to win a record equalling 5th for 2017
- Won 3 UCL, likely to win a 4th in 2017
- Enjoyed success at international level
- Enjoyed success in multiple leagues
- Over a goal a game for Real Madrid (at present)
- Real Madrid all time top scorer
- Portugal all time top scorer
- UCL all time top scorer
- European Championship Finals joint all time top scorer
I do think Messi is a better player, even though he's artificially enhanced by HGH, but there are a lot of arguments that are racking up for Cristiano.

My standard response: Messi is more naturally gifted but the fact that Ronaldo keeps up with him (or even surpasses him) is actually more impressive specifically because he doesn't posses that same natural talent.

Is this thread about greatest or most decorated player ever?
Because going by your logic Ruud Gullit was greater than Johan Cruyff.
To answer your question. No, Ronaldo isn't even the greatest player of his generation, Messi is far superior. Anyone with half a clue about football and isn't Portuguese can see that. Heck it's arguable whether he's even the greatest Portuguese player ever. In fact he's probably not even the greatest Ronaldo ever FFS.

He's not even the best Ronaldo ever.
Ronaldo when he was 10 stone overweight did more in his last world cup than Cristiano ever did.

He is more important than Messi. I must admit I am shocked at how good Messi's international goal-scoring record is, because most of the games, big games I have seen him for Argentina, he has been completely anonymous. He cost Argentina the world cup final with his misses. Ronaldo, on the other hand, pretty much IS Portugal, has always carried the whole team on his shoulder.

No. Messi is better. So was Maradona imo. Zidane too I guess. OK, at least in my opinion for whatever it's worth. And I liked to see magical play of Ronaldinho.

He reckons he could play at the top level for another 8 years. If he can bang in 30 or 40 goals a year for another 8 years I may change my mind.

I do think Messi is a better player, even though he's artificially enhanced by HGH, but there are a lot of arguments that are racking up for Cristiano. You also need to qualify "ever". More appropriately would be "to date".

More appropriately would be "to date". Well, in that case, the best player EVER is Jeff Gumbo. Played for Grimsby Town between 2024 and 2038. Won 16 titles, 8 champions leagues and 2 world cups. Married that model.

Greatest player ever who hasn't won the World Cup.

There's no question his name should be mentioned in a debate about the greatest ever. He's one of the elite of all time in the game.
Whether he is or will become definitively the GOAT, will always remain arguable because of his limitations as a player compared to others like Messi who can mostly do what Ronaldo can, and more. That will always stand in Ronaldo's way, although should he keep this form going for years to come, along with continuing to pick up silverware, then his longevity is going to help push his case forward in many people's eyes. And it most definitely would should he help Portugal win a World Cup.

Easy to score hat tricks in a joke league against joke teams, where they give up and stop pressing when they go a goal or two behind, and you can rest all your players and play the reserves before a CL game.
He scored 47 hat tricks in his career now.
Do you know how many hat tricks he scored in England over 5 years? 1. Yes one.

He still scored 31 goals in 34 in his penultimate season in the EPL and has spent all of his peak years in La Liga. You don't think he could have scored more hat tricks had he spent the rest of his career up to this point in the EPL? Strange time to talk about the poor quality of opposition he's scored hat tricks against on the back of consecutive hat tricks against Bayern Munich and Atletico.

No he was rubbish in his final EPL season. I think it is the season before last you are thinking of, his one and only prolific year in England. The season he was prolific he was drifting a lot more, and it was catching Premier League teams out, as they were failing to pick him up as he made late runs into the box. It was clever, but they worked it out by the next season, much to Ronaldo's frustration. He was also taking penalties by this point for United, but bottling them on the biggest occasions (the CL semi final against Barcelona, then the next match against Chelsea in the final as well)
