The role went to Elizabeth Berridge (as i am sure most of you know), but supposedly the reason Diane Franklin did not get the role was that she was "too pretty" to play the part of a landlady's daughter, so do you agree with this that Diane Franklin was to pretty to play the daughter of a landlady? And if she had gotten the role do you think she would have been better than Elizabeth Berridge? Screen test of Diane Franklin as Constanze

So did they tell Elizabeth Berridge: “Diane Franklin was too pretty for this role, so we picked you.” lol

Well on the Bonus Features - The Making of Amadeus, disc 2 Amadeus DVD, Director's Cut edition its Berridge that tells the story so either they told her or she found out later.

I’m sure that made Berridge feel great. I think both women are cute myself, but that’s Hollywood for you. Not that big a deal, I suppose, it’s not like Berridge’s career took off after that. Still, it’s got to suck for Franklin to have missed out on being in an Oscar-award winning movie.

Berridge is hot in her own way, but she's quirky enough that it's believable for her to fall for a boob like Mozart.
