Story details revealed. TEXT: Few details have been revealed about Cameron's plans for the Avatar sequels, but Landau has revealed some key points about it in the new issue of Total Film Magazine (via Games Radar). Landau explains the exact story in Avatar 2, saying that it focuses largely on the Sully family, with Jake and Neytiri now having a brood of their own in the sequel. The Sullys’, still living on Pandora, are once again faced with RDA mining operations threatening their existence, forcing Jake to take his family to "what is perceived as a safe harbor" at the reef. “..And when you get to the reef, there’s a clan we call the Metkayina. The Sullys are no longer in the environment that they know, the rainforest. They become the fish out of water. They become the fish out of water both culturally and just environmentally.” Landau went on to say, "The scripts are the blueprint from which we work," and that a large portion of time was spent writing the planned four sequels with the intent of each one resolving itself "with a big emotional resolution" but still connected to a "larger epic saga." Landau said about Cameron's overall approach to the franchise sequels: "I think the story of Avatar 2, and the strength of the story, is what Jim [Cameron] always does in any of his movies: he writes in universal themes that are bigger than any one genre. And if you think about this, there’s really no more universal theme than family. At the center of each of our sequels is the Sully family. What are the dynamics that parents go through to protect their family?" screenrant.com/avatar-2-story-details-sequels-navi-underwater-reef/

Producer Jon Landau spoke to Total Film magazine about the upcoming sequels and explained the main reason why it has taken over a decade to bring the first one to screens. As he revealed, the fact that all four sequel scripts have been written, at least in part, was a major delaying point for getting any new Avatar content out. "The scripts are the blueprint from which we work. So a large portion of our time was writing... with the challenge that each of those four scripts had to individually resolve itself in a story that concludes with a big emotional resolution – but when you look at them as a whole, the connected story arc of all four movies creates an even larger epic saga."
When it comes to Avatar 2, the film will pick up with exactly the same time difference having passed as in the real world. Cameron will be once again directing and the story will see the Sully family as they are now, with Sam Worthington’s Jake and Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri having become parents since we last saw them.
Landau went on to explain, "I think the story of Avatar 2, and the strength of the story, is what Jim [Cameron] always does in any of his movies: he writes in universal themes that are bigger than any one genre. And if you think about this, there’s really no more universal theme than family. At the center of each of our sequels is the Sully family. What are the dynamics that parents go through to protect their family?"

I'm obviously all over this (just look at my douchey username haha. I'm a huge fan of James Cameron films and one of resident unapologetic Avatard posters on here) Seeing Avatar in IMAX 3D was still quite possibly the best movie theater experience I've ever been a part of. It hit all the right notes and I was entertained from start to finish. It feeks like I've been waiting 84 years for the sequel lol I can't wait to see what James Cameron has up his sleeves for the sequel(s). Really looking forward to the rumored & hyped up scenes filmed underwater. I'm also so happy that Kate Winslet is re teaming up with James Cameron again. Apparently she can hold her breath for a really long time (record setting even) www.indiewire.com/2020/11/kate-winslet-beat-tom-cruise-underwater-record-avatar-2-1234598694/She beat Tom Cruise's record for his long underwater scene in that Mission Impossible sequel (over 7 minutes! . Here's a pic of her filming an underwater scene that went viral awhile back. Honestly, the only thing that I'm sorta worried about is the sequels will potentially have sizable roles for child actors and I usually get annoyed af by child actors and think they have no business being in Hollywood. Here's hoping they aren't given big parts. I have full confidence in James Cameron's direction/vision and his ability to raise the stakes with great sequels (as shown with Aliens and Terminator 2) Doubting Cameron would be a foolish thing to do at this point in his career.

In a recent interview with THR, the studio exec shared his confidence that Disney's creative marketing plans will reignite excitement for this long-gestating film. Asbell said: “…I can tell you that there is no better marketing apparatus in the business than the one at Disney. They will do an incredible job reigniting that passion for the original film. This is not just a sequel, it’s a saga. And it’s a family saga. It will be compelling on its own, but it will also be extremely compelling to return to those characters and to see how they’ve evolved. It’s less about Avatar being a really big movie and more about how Avatar was a really important cultural moment for audiences. I don’t think it will be hard to convince people to come back.” screenrant.com/avatar-2-disney-interest-marketing-campaign/

"He was finally able to crack that challenge," Saldana told Kevin McCarthy. "That whole thing that you can't imitate water virtually through performance capture. That was just a challenge that he had taken upon himself, and it took him years, and he did it. It's powerful, it's compelling. I can get choked up just talking about it. I was able to see just 20 minutes of the second installment right before the year ended last year and I was speechless...I was moved to tears. One thing nobody really knows about Jim is that Jim is also a big crier. He really has a heart of gold, and he is a firm man and he's very focused, but he does have a very delicate heart which is why he protects it so much. I think he's able to have an outlet through the stories that he creates and this story is going to be compelling." comicbook.com/movies/news/avatar-2-zoe-saldana-was-moved-to-tears-after-seeing-sequel-footage/
