Fans have been waiting long for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, but when details about the movie finally started trickling in what surprised many was the return of Sigourney Weaver in the new role of Kiri, a Na'vi teenager. While we have seen the character posters, not much is known about the character. Speaking to Elizabeth Banks for Interview magazine, Weaver called playing the character her “biggest stretch.” Departing from her original character, Dr. Grace Augustine, the doomed head of the Avatar Program in 2009s Avatar, Weaver's new character, Kiri is a member of the Na'vi and Jake and Neytiri's adopted daughter. The actor said that she cannot divulge the details about the movie, but she revealed that “it's the biggest stretch I get to play in every possible way." She further told Banks, "I think if Jim Cameron didn't know me really well, he wouldn't have cast me as something as goofy as this.” The actor further elaborated on her relationship with the Academy Award-winning director saying, “I know he’s going to present me with really unique challenges, and he’s not going to be shy about getting what he wants.” And with Kiri, the actor seemed to have cherished the challenge as she had to “work in a completely different way to play this character, a very physical way." She spoke about having to do a lot of parkour, burpees, and freediving in preparation for the sequel. As a result, she can now hold her breath for six-and-a-half minutes. She added, “Don’t you love these jobs where you have to learn some really outlandish thing that you keep with you for the rest of your life? Freediving, especially, I’m grateful that we spent a year doing that.” Isn’t Avatar the huge blockbuster that is notorious for not having a fanbase?

Speaking with Variety at D23, Landau provides an update on the filming status of the Avatar sequels and hints that the fifth film in the franchise may not be the end. Although confirming that they only have 4 more movies concretely planned, the producer explains that Pandora is a vast world and the story possibilities are virtually endless. Check out Landau's full comment below: “We have 4 more planned. We have 2, 3, 4, and 5. Those scripts are all written. We’ve completed productions on 2, 3, and part of movie 4, so we’re ready. Let’s get through 2, 3, 4, and 5, and then— look, the ideas are there, the story ideas. You know, Pandora, we always look at as a metaphor for our world and you can tell an unlimited number of stories in our world. You can tell an unlimited number of stories on Pandora.”screenrant.com/avatar-2-sequels-franchise-future-update/

Like the original and The Way of Water, Avatar’s three upcoming sequels will be filmed with 3-D cameras and generally use the technology to enhance the otherworldliness of their setting: the alien moon Pandora, populated by the Na’vi and many fantastical animals. Seeing Avatar again on the big screen only emphasizes Cameron’s skill with visual depth and texture. Compare it with most contemporary blockbusters, and the difference is striking. Any recent advances in CGI have been undercut by the intense schedules franchise movies must adhere to, which has led to visual-effects artists voicing complaints about their workload and fans noticing the increased shoddiness of the final results. Many Marvel and DC movies have flat and lifeless action sequences set in parking lots or airplane hangars—the furthest thing from the mystical Day-Glo wonders of Pandora.
Avatar: The Way of Water will be the first movie I see in 3-D in years, and I imagine the same will be true for much of its viewership. Cameron’s mastery of spectacle is backed up by his huge budgets, hefty gaps between projects, and long, painstaking production process. Those don’t fit as well with the assembly-line schedule demanded by a series as prolific as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Here’s a fun fact: All but two of the 30 Marvel movies will have come out in between Avatars one and two. The entire Despicable Me franchise, including Minions spin-offs, fits within that window, as does the DC Extended Universe. Sequels and multi-film sagas were not unusual before Avatar came out—indeed, Cameron has made two of the greatest sequels ever in Aliens 2 and Terminator 2. But since 2009 they’ve become practically the sole pillar of the American film industry, the financial life raft that multiplexes cling to in order to sell tickets and fight the rise of at-home streaming.

Per Variety, Landau revealed that Avatar 4 has already filmed a significant amount of the movie. The producer shared that Cameron and his crew have finished nearly all of the first act of Avatar 4 with much of the remaining movie "designed." This suggests that Avatar 4 is being filmed nearly in chronological order, something that is not typical for movie productions. screenrant.com/avatar-4-filming-surprisingly-far-along-already/

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Lang has teased the quality of the long, long, long-awaited follow-up:
"I have seen a lot of Avatar 2. It is amazing. There's no question about it. I mean, I've never seen anything like it and I've seen Avatar. It's pretty out there, it's beautiful. Aside from the fact that it's absolutely gorgeous to look at and everything like that, it's just such a humane film. There's so much heart and feeling and passion in the movie that I think it's going to have a very, very broad appeal."

“I think the studios blew it. Just to save 20 percent of the authoring cost of the 3-D, they went with 3-D post-conversion, which takes it out of the hands of the filmmaker on the set and puts it into some postproduction process that yielded a poor result. I do think that the new “Avatar” film will rekindle an interest in natively authored 3-D, which is what I personally believe is the right way to do it. I say either do 3-D or don’t do 3-D, but don’t try to slap it on afterward to get the up-charge on the ticket.” movieweb.com/avatar-director-james-cameron-studios-blew-it-3d-movies/

“I don’t want anybody whining about length when they sit and binge-watch [television] for eight hours. It’s like, give me a f-----g break. I’ve watched my kids sit and do five one-hour episodes in a row. Here’s the big social paradigm shift that has to happen: It’s okay to get up and go pee.”

Why shoot underwater? Here is looking at U Aquaman
Oh, I don’t know, maybe that it looks good? Come on! You want it to look like the people are underwater, so they need to be underwater. It’s not some gigantic leap — if you were making a western, you’d be out learning how to ride a horse. I knew Sam was a surfer, but Sig and Zoe and the others weren’t particularly ocean-oriented folks. So I was very specific about what would be required, and we got the world’s best breath-hold specialists to talk them through it.
