Hey I look at these big, spectacular films — I’m looking at you, Marvel and DC — it doesn’t matter how old the characters are, they all act like they’re in college,” Cameron said in the interview, taking a dig at his Blockbuster rivals.
“They have relationships, but they really don’t,” the three-time Oscar winner said of characters seen in both Marvel and DC Comics projects. “They never hang up their spurs because of their kids. The things that really ground us and give us power, love, and a purpose? Those characters don’t experience it, and I think that’s not the way to make movies.”

Avatar: The Way of Water’ Runtime Sails Past Three Hours The length of James Cameron's epic — around three hours and 10 minutes — is befitting of the 13-year wait for the sequel.

Critics Say that Avatar Had “No Cultural Impact,” But Are We Missing the Depth of its Influence? At the end of the day, the entire “Avatar lacked cultural impact” argument feels increasingly likely to be itself abandoned and forgotten in the years to come. The sheer power of James Cameron, blockbuster filmmaker—the man behind Aliens, Terminator 2, Titanic—was simply not something that could be minimized in the long run. Eventually, the king was always going to return, and you can be certain he’ll make a splash when he does.www.pastemagazine.com/movies/avatar/the-way-of-water-james-cameron-cultural-impact-legacy-3d-2009/

This movie might have to make $2B just to break even.

Wes Studi:
So, can we jump into Avatar 2?
Yeah, happy to. So, I’m in Auckland now, but I was in Wellington with James Cameron just yesterday and he was showing me some new footage. I was stunned beyond belief — by how beautiful and emotional it is, and the genius of the sensations it gives you. I can’t even describe what I experienced, just watching a few clips and sequences. I can’t wait to see the whole movie. I genuinely think it’s going to be one of the most amazing cinematic experiences I’ve ever had. I don’t think the world’s really ready for what’s going to happen. It’s beyond exciting.

Cameron says Avatar 2 has to make 2 billion to break even.
In order to be profitable, he told studio executives, “you have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history. That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”
...so...if it only makes a billion it takes the whole studio down? Wtf?

The CEO of IMAX, Richard Gelfond, is confident the long-awaited return to Pandora will succeed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gelfond claimed that Avatar: The Way of Water will have "one of the highest pre-sale levels we’ve ever seen" during a conference at the Wells Fargo TMT summit, although he couldn't reveal the exact numbers. He also said, "I’m extremely excited about Avatar getting into China.”
