nypost.com/2020/07/29/mets-great-jose-reyes-officially-retires/“As a young boy growing up in the Dominican Republic, I could have never dreamed of achieving all that I have through this incredible game,” Reyes wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank the New York Mets for giving me the opportunity to become a professional baseball player and for bringing me back at the end of my playing career. “Mets fans, what can I say? We never got the ring we hoped we would get, but I can’t imagine playing in front of any better fans in the whole world. Your passion and energy always lifted me higher and for that I will always be grateful.”

Jose brought an element of excitement during his prime, but pulling himself out of a game in order to secure the batting title in 2011 was a total bitch move, and then, ya know, beating the shit out of his wife in a hotel.
Good player, could hit for more power than people realized and was good at not striking out.

What's crazy is that they were in Hawaii when it happened. A beautiful, relaxing weekend spent at the beach, sipping on mai tais, eating poi, enjoying nature's awesome splendor on countless hikes, and for dessert grabbing your wife by the neck and tossing her into a wall.

He was the most exciting player on the Mets before he left the team.

Wondering if he'll get to the 5% threshold in his first year of HOF eligibility. Probably will. Not much of a postseason presence. Plus he has a 54.00 ERA.

Edit: Actually, to think of all the Mets HOF, he may get in Mets HOF. No number retired, definitely.

I'm with you. For their history, the Mets don't really have a ton of great offensive players to revere. Reyes had some really good years for them and they'll probably do some sort of Wright-Reyes thing when the time comes (although Wright is certainly more deserving of being in the Mets HOF).

Yeah, both were the faces of the team together for a long time. Personally, I think they should hang up #5, their first star to play the entire career with them.

Strawberry is also ahead of him in offensive WAR. www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/leaders_bat_50.shtmlReyes is their career leader in triples, steals, and caught stealing.

Man, what could have been if he didn't have injuries, get beaned in the head by Matt Cain which really affected him (it affected Cain too), and of course, the stupid Mets making right-center in Citi Field a dead zone, taking away Wright's natural power alley. I'd imagine they will retire his number.

I haven't been to CitiField yet, but I heard lots of problems there, like this poor seating view. Not sure if this is fixed.

Pretty sure this is Yankee Stadium. Citi Field is terrific, you should go.....when it's permissible.

The ballpark must have improved a lot since. I don't go to the games that much. I finally went to the new Yankees stadium last year. I was planning to go to CitiField sometime this season. Well, not happening. Maybe next season if fans are allow in.
Regarding good offensive Mets, they did have some great other potential that did not come to fruition: Dave Magadan & Gregg Jefferies. We will see about Michael Conforto.

That's definitely Yankee Stadium, you can tell by the lighting on top the upper deck, the shape of the foul area in front of the dugout, and the color of the seats.

So, both stadiums had obstructed view in the beginning. Terrible.

If you're in the upper deck in the outfield at Citi, you can't see straight down so on any ball to the warning track or beyond, you won't be able to see the play, but that's not too out of the ordinary for those types of seats. Beyond that, most seats have a great vantage point. I'm partial to Citi Field and not just because I'm a Mets fan. It has a much more relaxed atmosphere befitting of baseball and the concourse and concessions are awesome. It's beautiful, easy to get to (at least for me), just a great way to enjoy a game. Yankee Stadium is really nice, don't get me wrong, but when you're in the stands you feel oddly detached from the game, I can't really put my finger on it. The concessions at Citi Field are expensive for sure, but at Yankee Stadium they're obnoxiously so. The Legends Suite at Yankee Stadium, however, as pricey as it is, is incredible. Best seats in the house, and all the top shelf drinks and A+ food you could possibly want. There's even a candy room where you can go in and take as much as you can carry. It's the American dream!

I would think Yankee Stadium is like a corporate hospital, or some sort of corporate health building. Well built, very clean, modern, sterile. But missing the humanizing factor. As if they were so focused on building the perfect stadium, they forgot to give it a heart.
