New York Mets: Where in the world is Yoenis Cespedes? Yoenis Cespedes is AWOL. While the New York Mets are busy playing the Atlanta Braves, Cespedes is nowhere to be found. Has anyone seen Yoenis Cespedes? The enigmatic slugger is missing, according to the New York Mets. He never reported to the ballpark on Sunday and the team has not been able to reach him. BREAKING: The Mets don't know where Yoenis Cespedes is. Team statement: "As of game time, Yoenis Céspedes has not reported to the ballpark today. I thought this was common behavior from him? Yeah hes not the most stable or reliable guy but for the Mets to put it out there like this is kind of concerning.

I thought this was common behavior from him? Being a bit of a bozo is common behavior, not going AWOL.

Hate to think the worst - but you'd have to think they're doing a 'wellness check' on him right now, no? i.e. - sending somebody to his living quarters.
** Edit - sounds like they're down in Atlanta - wouldn't he have been at the team hotel? this doesn't sound good.

Yeah, if the Mets were in New York, this would be annoying, but probably more explainable. The Mets are in Atlanta though, and he played last night, which makes this seem to be a bigger deal. You would think the team knows what's up, especially considering the kind of precautions being taken this year.

WFAN Sports Radio - 'The Mets have indicated that they have no reason to believe that Cespedes' safety is at risk.'

Gott a notification when I woke up a few mins ago, came here for updates.
Is this why the Mets have so many lefty's in today's lineup?
So tired I finally realized Atlanta is winning, not New York.

Bob Nightengale - just on Twitter -
'Yoenis Cespedes’ absence, a #Mets official said, is not COVID-19 related, and his safety is.not at risk. He has also not told Mets officials he is opting out.'

Anybody else reminded of Cedric Ceballos going missing from the Lakers in 96?
I'm too young to remember Pasquale Perez getting lost on the Georgia Highway.

Since they're down in Atlanta -
Think he pulled a 'Lou Will' and went to Magic City to get some 'chicken wings'?
Too soon?

It's been confirmed Cespedes has opted out of the rest of the season - per GM Brodie Van Wagenen.
OK - it's safe to let the jokes fly.

He's opted out.
He apparently packed his bags and departed the team hotel without initially informing anyone of his intentions. Van Wagenen called it a "disappointing end" to Cespedes' four-year tenure with the club.

Brave Sir Yoenis ran away. Bravely ran away away. When danger reared it's ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled. Yes, brave Sir Yoenis turned about And gallantly he chickened out. Swiftly taking to his feet, He beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the brave, Sir Yoenis!
