Decent body count, decent pacing. The killer was completely unthreatening tho. Some schmuck in a canadian tuxedo who wields a big ass power drill? Meh. Props for not blatantly copying the mask wearing stereotype tho i guess. It just doesnt do enough to make the killer fun or entertaining. Decent gratuitous nudity tho.

Would be interested in a remake based on the original screenplay and intent for it to have been a parody.

It is worth noting that arch feminist lesbian, Rita Mae Brown, wrote the screenplay.

Is she the one that writes all those cat mysteries?

You can see some of the obvious symbolism with the guy wielding a big drill...and in the end of the first film the final girl breaks the drill in half, basically taking away the killers balls.

Between this series and the Sorority House Massacre movies I barely remember which of these is which. I know at one point one or other used called back to footage from a movie in the other series, so it's all kind of a blur of crappy 80s exploitation slasher trash to me. And I mean that in a nice way... sort of.

I got a hold of the Roger Corman Cult Classic box-set years ago, but somehow did not see the movies until late autumn of 2015. Think I rated pretty much all of them 5/10, but somehow that was during a stressfull perioded, and one where I also made it rather difficult by watching far too many movies (a lot of horrible ones as well) in little time, so not many really stood out, and most of them ended up rather forgettable.
Anyway, after having seen the much more feel-good/slapstick comedy show that is Jim Wynorski's Sorority House Massacre 2 and 3 (aka Hard to Die), I was sure more in the right mood, for that kind of bad (but enjoyable) b-movie entertainment, and might just have to re-watch the original films again this coming October.

This is the one famous 80s slasher that I've never got around to seeing yet. But that's going to change in October; I plan to make SPM a first-time viewing for The Challenge.

The sequels get more over the top. Still watchable tho. You might like "The Last Slumber Party" as well.

Would be interested in a remake based on the original screenplay and intent for it to have been a parody. Not sure if it’s going to be a parody but there is a remake coming out on SyFy Channel. Which means it’s going to be decent, I guess. movieweb.com/slumber-party-massacre-remake-photo/
