The fossil remains were unearthed by Sue Hendrickson and were the center of a fierce legal battle regarding ownership. There's a great documentary about the case called Dinosaur 13.
'Sue' was sold for a record $8.3 million and is now on display at the Field Museum in Chicago.

My first introduction to dinosaurs was a Little Golden Book, which I loved! The illustrations were beautiful; might have had some influence on why I chose to illustrate children's books... *whistles* 1959? So much has changed in how they're depicted today.

It has changed, hasn't it, lol? But I have an interest in older illustration styles, and I am trying to relocate books from my childhood that I loved for the pictures. Those were good childhood memories of mine. So, the 1959... that sort of dates me, doesn't it? I guess I am a dinosaur, too, since everything nowadays is CGI. I stopped illustrating when that happened, and went out and found a "real" job. But I still paint and create other artistic things that a computer can't

I love that drawing. Any idea who the artist was? Edit: One of my favorite memories was finding one of my father's childhood memories. From the time I was little, he would tell me the story of The Little Red Hen, from memory. It had been in one of his childhood readers. He would tell me what the pictures had looked liked, from memory. And after an extensive search on eBay, with much help from the book dealer, I found that Winston Reader, bought it and had it shipped to my dad's address, as a surprise. He called, in tears, he was so happy to have it again. I have it, now... he passed away in 2004, but while he was in the hospital, I would read it to him. I didn't know if he could hear it or not, but it helped me say goodbye to him.

rachelcarson1953 it’s actually a likeness of a character from a book series I enjoy. Whoever the artist was, I don’t know. Okay, you a going to think I'm completely insane, or suffer from OCD... I saved the image onto my hard drive; I maintain a file of images that I like - artists call it a morgue, and they use it for reference of artwork styles that they like. When I saved it, the name Ethan Gage was in the file name. So I searched, found the series of books written by William Dietrich, saw the image on several of the books, searched for Ethan Gage illustrations and found the artist, Richard Ljoeness. His work is really varied and interesting. So, thanks for mentioning 'a book series', that helped a lot! I really thought it was an old illustration; it's interesting that it isn't! Just FYI, all artists are a bit OCD, and... touched in the head! But we're a pretty harmless lot.
