I like black licorice also. Is anybody familiar with horehound candy? It is an indescribable taste but does remind me of black licorice. I think I may have tried an English derivative. Whatever it was, I loved it!
I recall now, they are known as Army and Navy Sweets. Boiled black and hard and licoricey and herbie.

I think we're talking about the same thing only a different name. I mostly suck on them in the winter time to soothe my throat.

Darrell Lea went bust and don't have their own stores now, but they used to do a blackcurrent flavor which I liked to mix with the black.

Yes, as a little kid I ate horehound candy, too. I remember crunching on those drops impatiently rather than gently sucking on them. Loved them.

Love, Love, Love It! Have been eating Dutch Licorice too lately which is salted. Can't get enough. I just went shopping and forgot to buy some! I meant to. Ugh!

Not a fan of it myself. My husband loves it, especially the Australian licorice which he buys a lot.

I'm Dutch myself and I love licorice! I don't know if you mean Dutch heritage or you live in Holland stratego But I gotta tell you! I taught school for the Dept of defense in Germany. The Germans didn't care for us. BUT if we went to Holland the people were so nice to us. The Dutch didn't hate us! It was so fun visiting Holland. Do the Dutch make sweet anise into a soup? I think it is particular to the Azores Island my grands were from ; the Flores. Our 2 ancestral lands had a good run from 1400's to 1600's. Lol I'm actually a Dutch person living in the Netherlands. I'm glad you had such a nice experience over here! We sure love our licorice, but I've never heard of soup made of sweet anise. I wouldn't mind trying it, though. We do drink warm milk with anise. Ah yeah, the good old days!😉

I've tried it once, and never liked it. I far prefer the fruity/Dr. Pepper flavored ones

I would like to try a Dr. Pepper one. Or even a Cola one. Nothing beats a black licorice though and they are nice mixed with a fruity one.
