Ok so first of all is this really supposed to be a “loose” remake of the original Carnival Of Souls and 2nd why is Wes Craven’s name attached to this?
Wow this was just bad. I’m gonna take it that NO ONE involved with this movie had understood the original Carnival Of Souls or even seen this because this is a total BITCH SLAP to the original movie. They took what was basically the original Jacob’s Ladder and made this loose remake about a woman who has visions of the man who killed and raped her mom. The story wasn’t interesting, the scares were predictable, pacing was slow and LARRY MILLER as the antagonist??? Just WHAT THE FUCK??? I can see why the original actress of Carnival of Souls wanted nothing to do with this.

I've heard it's terrible, but to be fair the lead actress from the original doesn't seem to have wanted to be in anything for like 40 years now, so it might not have been this project in particular.
Speaking of modern, lame, pale imitations of Carnival of Souls, there was a movie called Left in Darkness that was a similar concept but seems like it has a lot more to do with this lame remake than the original.

I heard that she went to this studio to pitch her sequel to the original. Something happened and apparently the studio wanted to do a loose remake. She got very upset with the studio and said they had basically stabbed her in the back. This may be why you aren’t seeing her in things.

Yes, born of the era where Wes Craven's name was slapped on dozens of DTV slop to make a quick buck. I only watched this one once but recall it being an absolute bore.

I doubt he had much input on this movie either. Although I do wish Wes Craven had actually directed this. I’m not even against the idea of a remake of Carnival of Souls, but THIS WAS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT!!!

He "Presented" a number of c-grade horror in the late '90s/early '00s that were very transparently a quick cash-in for him and a stab at legitimacy by the folks willing to pay him. The only one born out of this era that was worth a damn as I far as I can recall was Wishmaster. Dracula 2000 wasn't without its charms too.

Let's put it this way... I have more respect for the Teen slasher "Soul Survivors" over this... "Soul Survivors" was a shameless ripoff. But to be fair it's not a new trope.

Do any of you think honestly Larry Miller could actually be scary if given the right movie?

I know the series has it's fans, but even the first feels like a cheap throwaway made by amateurs.

I wouldn't fight anyone over it, but the first two are good, trashy fun with low pretenses and decent production value for the budget. The less said about the other two sequels, the better.

I was hoping we would come to fisticuffs... oh well.

Not surprised. The late 90s were a weak period for the genre. With a handful of notable exceptions, of course.
