IMDb as a whole is terrible. Not just the user reviews. It seems like once amazon bought it it just went downhill.

They = IMDb .. have you lost track of your thread already? I ask because it could've meant "The people writing those reviews" or "The guys who appear the video." Don't worry. The irony of someone not being clear when making a joke about another person not using the right term isn't lost on me.

It is reliable of what the average person thinks.
This video is evidence of that.
They are picking out the reviews that they find ridiculous. That is hardly fair.

IMDb reviews are all over the map ... same movie can be rated a TEN or a ONE ... some reviews are pure messing around or satire. There are some by a poster calls himself S_A_N_D_W_I_C_H_E_S that are an absolute hoot ! He twists and "mis-understands" everything. His "reviews " of the classics are a real mood brightener ! at least I like to THINK he is kidding

Oh, I didn't mean that most reviews are like the ones in the video... but the number of them is pretty big. And it's not like you can only find reviews like these in movies with some kind of controversy; they're everywhere.

I am also aware that there are a lot of laughable reviews, but I honestly think many people are really that bad at judging movies. The average person won't even put much thought into it.

I liked the old IMDB so much better. I would just go over to the "Charlie's Angels" board and hang out with my friends there. It was just so simple and direct. With the newer format it's like I have to seek things out. I'm still glad to have something, though.

The IMDb ratings is only reliable as a rough screening tool. Over 6.5 worth a look; under 5, avoid at all costs. 6-6.5, possibly worth a look.
More useful for films older than 2015.
I find the similar films tool, keywords search, and Parents Guide more useful.

We just think too differently to the point where it seems we might as well not even discuss anything. You are completely missing what I am saying. It is reliable as what the AVERAGE person thinks and all of the ratings combined seem to come out to a somewhat accurate rating. Not always, but mostly.

Do people read other people's reviews to decide whether they want to see a film and just accept the word of total strangers they know nothing about ? The same movie can be rated a one all the way to a ten !

The same movie can be rated a one all the way to a ten ! Yes, there are people that do that, but I was using the word "reliable" in regards to looking for a consensus.
