IMDB may not be perfect but it's the closest we have to good. RT, eh, besides their own shenanigans with deleting reviews the scores reflect PC culture more than an educated critique of the technical and artistic merits of a film. Movie critics -- not many worth reading since Ebert died, although if anyone believes they can change my mind I would love to proven wrong. IMDB is still good because the shear number of user reviews/scores tend to reflect the average person's thoughts about the film although I admit that more recent contentious films have suffered from down or up voting campaigns but over time I believe it will even out.

When did that happen? the scores reflect PC culture more than an educated critique of the technical and artistic merits of a film. I disagree. Let's look at some 2019 movies for example: -JOJO RABBIT, JOHN WICK CHAPTER 3: PARABELLUM and UNCUT GEMS: Excellent reviews. -A MADEA FAMILY FUNERAL, THE HUSTLE and X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX: Terrible reviews. -ALADDIN, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, CHARLIE'S ANGELS and TERMINATOR: DARK FATE: Merely average reviews.

Google Play reviews are equally as bad- maybe worse. There are a lot more of the reviews with "I saw 20/25/30 minutes and I quit" regarding movies.

I'm unsure what you are implying, that RT got these right and so it's a good system? I haven't seen any of these so I have no opinion about the validity of their scores. The deleted reviews thing was all over the news. What I know is this, over the years when I look at review scores on RT and IMDB, the latter matches my and my friend's and family's general feelings about a movie far more often. Generally speaking I put zero stock in the opinion of professional critics and that's what I'm addressing about scores aligning with PC culture. Some movies are always going to be upvoted by critics because they are afraid of PC backlash but rando users like me have no fear of that.

Some movies are always going to be upvoted by critics because they are afraid of PC backlash but rando users like me have no fear of that. -JOJO RABBIT is a wacky comedy about WWII where none of the characters are played by German actors. JOHN WICK CHAPTER 3: PARABELLUM shows a (mostly) white man being violent from beginning to end. UNCUT GEMS focuses on how angry and stressed a white man is, and he doesn't get any redemption. Why weren't they panned? -A MADEA FAMILY FUNERAL was directed by a black man and the actors are black too. THE HUSTLE has 2 female leads. X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX has a scene where a character says "The team should be called X-Women since we do all the work around here!" Why weren't they praised? -In ALADDIN, the actors are P.O.C. and there's a (new) feminist song. CHARLIE'S ANGELS (which was directed by a woman) and TERMINATOR: DARK FATE have female heroines, a couple of which are P.O.C., and so does ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL. Why weren't they universally praised? The deleted reviews thing was all over the news. I looked it up, but I couldn't find anything. Please, do you have any links?

I wouldn't say IMDb ratings match my ratings. But I can generally predict what my take on a production will be from its IMDb ratings, more or less--but I am also taking into consideration a lot of other variables about the production, not just the rating alone.
So, for example, the quality of the design of the publicity materials (like the posters or DVD/Blu-Ray covers), the genre categorizations, when it was made, ballpark budget (low-budget, blockbuster-budget), the language, where it was filmed, the artistic team, etc. Even the title. You may not know what the story is going to be about from the title, but you can often get a clue of what the quality of the production will be like from it.
And, most important, usually the people who are rating 1990s Bollywood films are not necessarily the same crowd as those rating 2010s Marvels or Pirates of the Caribbeans or Shreks; or those rating 1950s-60s swords and sandals, or 1970s French political dramas; or Argentinian or German gay dramas.
