First one that came to mind was The Division Bell. Liked it then and like it now. Favourite 2 out of them is Snivilisation and Dubnobasswithmyheadman.

Prince - "Come" Soundgarden - "Superunknown" The Wedding Present - "Watusi" The Stone Roses - "Second Coming" Nirvana - "MTV Unplugged"
Looked through my collection....those were the standouts/most interesting releases of '94.
And that Prince album "Come" is the most unheralded release of his career, but it turned out to be one of his best. Top 5 Prince. No hits, no known songs, but, oh, is it great.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse: Sleeps With Angels
A tribute to Kurt Cobain, this is one of Neil's most underrated works. A very, sad, quiet for Crazy Horse kind of record. In really dark times in my life, I've listened to it for that odd inspiration that only Neil Young seems to conjure. Well worth a listen if you've never heard it.

I own four of those - Nas, Orbital, Portishead and Underworld. None of which I rate very highly, though I've probably neglected the Orbital one in recent years, it is pretty good. Underworld are one of my favourite bands, but they do have a tendency to record the occasional snoozefest of a track, and there are three or four on that album. I'm a big Neil Young fan, but don't much care for the one Millar mentions. It sounded dated even at the time.
I will have to think (ie look up RYM or Wiki) about what my favourites would be.

After much, well some, deliberation I have decided that Susuma Yokota's Acid Mt Fuji is my favourite of that year now, but I only discovered it quite recently. At the time, I would probably have gone for Plastikman's Musik, with honourable mentions for Darkthrone, Burzum, Emperor, OC, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Robert Hood, and some more rap albums that I can't recall offhand.

I'm listening to Illmatic right now, it's not bad, but is nothing special for me, and I doubt I'll ever change my mind. He's a resolutely mediocre rapper, and the beats are clunky. There was much better rap in NYC at that time.

Current 93...Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre Coil....Angelic Conversation Nirvana...Unplugged Jackie Leven... The Mystery Of Love Is Greater Than The Mystery Of Death Ice T...Home Invasion Lustmord... The Place Where The Black Stars Hang Sonic Youth...Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star' Johnny Cash...American Recordings I like that C93 album well enough, but it's not a particular favourite. I always felt that Home Invasion never lived up to the delightfully provocative sleeve, and was a 1993 release to boot.

Preferred OG (his masterpiece) to Home invasion but still very much like it. Mind you the Jackie Leven one would be my Desert Island Pick of the year.

I listened to OG a few weeks ago, for the first time in years. It's pretty good, but suffers from the common problem of many rap albums by being far too long. I've seen Jackie Leven live a few times, and enjoyed the shows, but never feel like listening to him at home.

Still miss the big man. Never missed him when he came to town. They did a great video for OG at the time I still have in the loft somewhere with a video for each song, don't think it ever got a DVD release sadly. Midnight is a great track with great use of Sabbath sampling.

Not a bad list. Get rid of feckin Oasis though. Chancers. Off the top of my head maybe add Beastie Boys-Ill Communication and Beck-Mellow Gold to that list. Probably loads more but I'd have to have a good look through the 94 releases.
