Episode 2 - did not see that coming. It's like a different story than the first 20 minutes of episode 1.

I've heard that like the book, each episode will almost seem like a different show, as if it is being told almost anthology style. Well, there is clearly an overarching storyline that drove both episodes. But what's different is the tone and style. Episode one had a whole late 1940s-early 1950s musical number right in the middle. Nothing remotely like that in episode 2, which was more like Jurassic Park meets X-Men.

It's like Green Book meets Seventh Son. Seems like the kind of show to keep us on our toes.

I've heard that one episode plays like a short Indiana Jones film, so this series is going to be all over the place tonally!

Jurnee Smollett is stealing this show. She is absolutely amazing.
Her acting in ep 3 was fantastic.

Someone on reddit mentioned that ep 4 is like Indiana Jones. I agree, that seems to have been a big inspiration for this episode.
They are really putting the actors & technical team through their paces. Like with the underwater scenes.

Although there is a lot more in-your-face sex in this show than in any family-oriented Spielberg productions.

I watched all 5 episodes, it's not really worth a crap. And yet you watch 5 episodes ...

I guess there is one more episode left to drop. It has been an amazing run. Wondering how it will finish.

I almost wish these were distinct movies or an anthology of black horror. I think they could be fleshed out into movies since the reason the episodes are great are not necessarily due to the main story
I haven't seen the latest episode so maybe the main plot will develop into something more interesting.

I've stalled on it. The episode set in Korea pretty much turned me off for some reason. I'll probably finish watching it at some point though. That and the Haunted House were probably my favorite episodes.

I prefer Lovecraft proper. Ten times better than this sanitized and self-congratulatory trash.

I just finished watching the whole series, with the finale last night. Jurnee Smollet, Michael K Williams were so good. Part of what made the series good was their chemistry and onscreen relationship. Aunjanue Ellis was so good too.
Even the few times the plot went places I couldn't follow, I so enjoyed just watching it.
The episode set in Korea was riveting!

The first guest speaker met Lovecraft and also met Robert E Howard and tells about that near the end of it.

Just watched the finale.
It was fine, but my fears came true.
Since I didn't care about the main plot, nothing in the finale helped me appreciate it.
I do think the characters remained interested in it and it was a very bittersweet conclusion.

I prefer Lovecraft proper. Ten times better than this sanitized and self-congratulatory trash. Do you mean that you prefer HP Lovecraft, or that you mean you prefer the novel that this tv show was based on?
